I've got a bad feeling about this: A "For Sale" trade going south

lol why do they care if someone goes in a school campus? Here it's unlocked and it's ok to go in and play in the basketball/football court.

BTW, hope everything works out with the Shure's.

Well I've been having a curious 24 hours so far. Just woke up with a bloody nose, and checked my BlackBerry for any PM alerts, which there were none. But I'm glad FYDave has not done a complete cut-and-run, and posted in this thread. He still has time to redeem himself and this situation, and I'll give him until the end of this upcoming Monday to ship them to me, using a tracking number as proof-of-shipment.

I'll PM, text, and call him to remind him on both Sunday and Monday. I see no excuse by now why he shouldn't ship them. And that is his real phone number, so feel free to call him (texting would probably be better) if you wish.

Well, here in California at least we're allowed to be on campus as long as the sun isn't down, and when it is, we can still play along the outer perimeters (parking lot, basketball court, etc) as long as we don't have to hop any fences to gain access to it. Technically, me and my friend didn't climb over a fence, we walked through an open one, but oh well.

Might as well make another post, since this is close to the top of the sub-forum anyway.

I just got off the phone with Dave; seems that he called me three times twenty minutes ago before leaving a voice mail telling me to call him. We talked about his work schedule and the responses he's been getting from some forum members (he was particularly confused by olblueyez's "penis wrinkle" comment

), and he told me he should be able to get a friend to drive him to the post office today and ship them then. I'm curious as to how he's going to do it when it's 3PM in his time zone, and the delivery trucks pick up at around 3:30PM.

Which leads into the next subject: Dave has only used the post office to ship packages twice, this being his second time. Something similar to this apparantly happened to the first person he dealt with in the FS section (the guy paid, and then Dave was yanked into some job that kept him away from this house the entire week). He's not a scammer, but rather a confused newbie to Head-Fi and the shipping process, and I told him that he needs to learn that immediate shipping is what is expected by the community, or else people will expect the worst, since we've all had our fair experience with past scammers here.

So if everything works out (as in: he ships them today, and I get them soon), then for his feedback, I'll link to this thread and say that those who want to buy from him in the future may experience volatile shipping delays.

EDIT: His friend doesn't want to drive him to the post office today, so he's going to try for one of those automated things tomorrow, even though it's Sunday.

I think some better advice for him would be to just stay away from FS/ FT, as he is obviously not set up for it. All these logistical issues needed to be figured out prior to the FT post. I don't think this guy will scam you but he clearly hasn't thought this through.

Hey, just to check here since it's quite clear you guys have more experience with the postal service and other shipping services, are the 24 hour automated machines open on Sundays? I'm under the impression they would be since they're 24 hour machines. There's one about two towns over that I could use tomorrow if it is open, as Mule mentioned.

They are here and almost every post office has one (all the "real" post offices - by this I mean post offices that have retail services and aren't on a college campus or something like that). They are great!

Look to see if there is a FedEx/Kinko's or UPS Store nearby. They have longer hours than the Post Office.

You might also want to see if there is a bus or other public transportation to the nearest major airport. A number of airports have nearby Post Offices with extended hours or even 24 hour operation. ThereMs one next to LAX here in LA that's open 24 hours. They won't ship until the next business day, but you can drop something off at 3AM on a Sunday and get a tracking number.

I also believe it's possible to print USPS shipping labels online and have your delivery man pick them up on his route.

You sometimes have to be a little resourceful, but there's almost always a way to get something out, no matter your hours. I've been selling a few items lately and work has been keeping me here from about 9AM through midnight every day. I also had to come in today. A member paid for his HD-650s, so I got up early, packed them, and then took a route to the office that goes by the Playa del Rey station that opens at 7:30AM on Saturdays. The Senns are off to Wisconsin right now and I'm back at work.

So get creative and get the IEMs out the door. I know you will do the right thing.

Yeah. This is will probably be the third time in my life I'll be using the postal service for mailing a package, so it's all still a bit more foreign to me than I'd like. Thanks for the tips though.

Hey, I know that guy. I bought his HD555's a while back.

Anyways, seems like you guys were jumping the gun a bit with the assumptions and accusations. Perhaps he handled things incorrectly but you didn't have to jump straight down his throat about it. If it were me that would have probably scared the hell out of me, perhaps badly enough to not want to return to Head-Fi.

Hey what is all the mention of me in this thread?!?!? I did not know I was so popular! *Blushes*

Perhaps a sticky should be made with common selling and buying guidelines? Maybe something as simple as: "Sellers/traders of items are generally expected to ship the item within two days of agreeing to the trade/recieving payment and shipping information."

Just a thought...

Probably so, to some degree, but I do think the OP was correct in posting this. This all could have been easily avoided if the guy hadn't dragged his feet so long with seemingly numerous excuses. By his doing so, the only valid assumption one could make was perhaps the incorrect one.

Hope this works out and he finds a way, in spite of his inexperience (yawn) with the Postal Service, to mail the IEM's in question.

Perhaps not a bad thing. There is such a thing called responsibility and you don't learn this in head-fi. By the time you are old enough to post and sell here, you should have an idea of treating others the way you would like to be treated. Maybe being banned from selling/trading is a penalty head-fi should implement if there are complaints such as this one. How about a team of head=fiers in charge of arbitration?
He states in his profile that he is trying to get a business out of the ground. If that is the case, it will fail if that is the way he treats his customers.
