I have owned Sennheiser HD448 which is similar to 449.

It had thick and meaty mids. bass was tight but slightly one note. lot of people call it bass light but I heard they fixed it in HD449. Highs were not at all prominant, it was lot more darker than ue6000. It lacked sound stage depth and 3 dimentionality.

cant comment on others.

i ve to decide between shure srh440 and D340...
any idea where i can get srh440 for cheap rate in india??

guys im from pondicherry, India. pls suggest me a best headphone under 100 dollars(6000INR)..i prefer almost all genres..so im looking forward for a allrounder(May be a bit mid forward and no need of boom boom bass since im lot into vocals and instruments like guitar solos)..it should be a bang bor buck with great sound qaulity and build quality which is prime for me..Pls open your views abt it

Sony zx series fills your requirements and is excellent for the price. Much better than the 44x senns! I would also look at the Samson 850 rc and get beyer pads for them if I were you !.. There are not many headphones that sound as good as the Samsons do under 10k!!! At least not anything suggested to you here! Google up reviews on Sony zx700/750 and superlux hd668b(same as Samson sr850).

Dial your budget up another few thousands and you can probably look at the brainwavz HM5 ...those are some really sweet cans(find reviews under fischer fa 003)
For mids and transients..there is nothing like the shure srh940 but that is not in your budget! They are quick to tell you how bad your source is...hehehehe!

All the best!

@ganeshrajarajan .. As you said you don't need bass heavy headphones and with clear mids and highs, I suppose you should go open back headphones. Those will definitely give you clear mids and highs with added soundstage. Superlux and Samsons are bright in sound and you will be tired after hearing them for sometime their highs are very bright .. According to your taste Grado's are best for you .. Grado SR60 or Grado SR80 .. you may have to shell out may be 1K to 2K more. You can check price on snapdeal. The extra money you'll invest in Grados will be worth when you listen to them. Don't go for closed back headphones they will be bass heavy. I may suggest you Sony, however all of them are closed backs and you certainly will loose the Sounstage.

thanks dude btw im not against bass but the lows should not disturb other spectrum and going to be happy if it delivers controlled tight and punchy bass.. moreover grado too much out of my budget whether its gonna deliver something special than SR850 for that extra bucks or sr850 with modified pads gonna veil those harsh highs??

oh thanks for your new thoughts..so now i got into wide options like Sony zx700(5600INR), Samson SR850 (2300INR!!!) and grado (6600INR) but HM5 is not available here(i dont prefer buying from Mp4nation.com)..
i think i should start from Samson sr850 since im not going to be wrong for the price..if that doesnt satisfy me then i should look into grado, sony zx or Shure srh440..
whats your idea??should i go for Samson Sr850 or sony zx700 or grado(its too far away from my budget)..pls pour your thoughts only regarding the sound quality comparison..sr850 may be a bang for buck or more value for the price but if Sony zx700 gonna beat those sr850 by fair margin then i'm ready to spend those extra bucks.if that is not the case SR850 with some modified pads gonna serve the purpose then i m going to settle with it...so pls share your idea
adding to that how do sony zx700 compared to Shure srh440 and denon D340 in terms of SQ??

@ganeshrajarajan Sony headphones tends to overlap bass frequencies with MIDs .. for cutting harsh high frequencies you can add resistor to headphones, however adding resistor will also lower the overall volume of headphone. However over lapping frequencies on sony's can't be rectified, so as for now you can go for Samson, however from where are you planning to buy Samson ? Is it avalaible online ?

and at times im critical about mobility so hd800 and things are a bit over head for me . R3 is inbound , and its said to have a huge sound stage . i will compare it to hd600 if its that good .
