Btw,i have placed my v8 on the top of my dvd player,do you think that the dvd would cause more undesirable heat to the v8?

john53, the v8 and psu chassis does very good work in dissipating heat. Most of the time, if you put your hands on the units, you can just feel a little bit of warmth on touch. I stack them up more for to have aditional weight to make it more stable and i incorporated Spike Cones for better support and sound

It works like a charm

The only draw back i see for your V8 on top of CDP is not the heat but vibrations. You could try listening to your RIG again with the V8 on top of CDP and when on a stable support. ( when you have the cones you could try again and compare. There will be improvement) I am sure you will be able to tell the difference. If you wan to stack them on top of each other, i suggest you introduce Spilke Cones to divert the vibrations away. The sound will improve with better clarity and more punch.

Currently I'm using a pair of Amperex orange label that were made in Great Britain, very good results. I also have a set of Amperex that are branded as RCA, those are very good as well. Be sure to keep an eye on Ebay, you can get good tubes for very reasonable prices. As for voiding the warranty, it was worth it

Thanks for sharing! Still a noob when it comes to Tubes. What kind of difference does each type of tube provide for the V8?

arteom, thanks for sharing tubes experience. I'm searching for tubes which can improve the dynamic of V8, but I don't like the highs to be too bright. Can you give some recommendation?
By the way, can you describe the sound of Amperex tubes in more detail as well?
Many thanks!

For more dynamic sound try the Philips Miniwatt SQ.

I've tried three Amperex tubes, for me the Amperex Orange Label (A-Frame w/dimpled getters made in Great Britain) was the tube that really noticeably improved the dynamics of the v8. Also the sound signature is a bit upfront with this set, which for some is a negative thing. But for my setup (K701 & modded MS-Pro) I wanted instruments to be brought forward a bit. I also have a RCA branded Amperex, dimple getters on that one, very rich sounding tube that one. I had a pair of holland made A-Frame Amperex that I ended up selling, it was a bit too neutral for my tastes. Be sure to do some research, it will pay off.

Siemens are also fairly nice, neutral and smooth.

Got my X-Can V8P yesterday and it sounds very nice. Bes at MusicDirect was incredibly helpful when I stopped by yesterday to pick t up.

Oh and it seems like my Little-Pinkie isn't functioning properly. When I plugged it into the wall I heard a pop from within it. I think a capacitor may have blown. I'll have to e-mail the guy I got it from..

Zombie X, good CHoice !! :p

And hey i ahev some thing to share
biggrin.gif

Just to share my experience.. Well.. it all started after i decided to buy the Xcan.. and as you know.. all AMp lovers will rush home.. and the 1st thing they do is to set ip up for a quick listen before burning in... it was quite disastrous for me.. The 1st time i plug in my Xcan. i also hear a LOUD POP ... i was cluesless what went wrong and tot it could be some thing internal .. wanted to pop it open to check it out... but i don wan to void WARRANTY on 1st DAY !! and worse.. i smelt some thing burnt too.. was quite disappointed that i could not enjoy the Amp and have to bring it back to the dealer for inspection.. i brought it back to the dealer the next day.. as i was really anxious to get it fixed..i took a day leave..
tongue.gif
just to ensure follow through till its fixed.. Well the dealer were helpful and sympathise with my situation and offer to check. the first thing they wan to comfirm is if the Xcan is still working.. and Surprise! Surprise.. they do not have the stock power cord on hand and has to use a XPSU.. ( i was thinking to my self, HOW COULD that be?? ) in any case.. the power was lug in and VIOLA ! The amp works !! turn out it was the fuse on the Power Plug which POP.. well... lucky me.. and the dealer promised to get a replacement stock cord for me.. in the mean time.. since the Xcan was already hooked up .. i started to listen to a bit more ... that was the time i actually heard the PSU and Xcan combi.. BIG difference noted..was quite impressed with the improvement .... in the end i thanked the dealer for his help.. and brought back my "revived Xcan " and i bought the PSU on the spot...it is about the 2/3 the price of the AMp though.. thinking back.. i tot i was impulsive.. but i did not regret it though
smily_headphones1.gif
SO..... Thats my little story..

HEy Zombie X maybe you could check that cable fuse? try another cable? If not you might end up with some thing more than what you expect when you go back to the dealer

My X-Can V8P works just the little-Pinkie died. The seller told me to send it back to him and he'd refund it. I think I'll take that money and buy one from Rock Grotto.

Jul 3, 2009 at 6:59 PM Post #119 of 441
Got the refund moments ago.

For my Little-Pinkie, should I get the "Audioquest NRG-3" or "Shunyata Diamondback" as the upgrade cord for it? My dad is willing to part with his Diamondback, but I'm using a NRG-3 on my PS3. Any idea on which would be better for it? I'm more concerned about cleaner power rather than music improvements in the cable.

Also I found a way to help drive the HD600 better within the USA one the X-CnV8P. For the hell of it I plugged the X-CanV8P into my Tripp Lite Isolator (IS1800HG) and it seems to give the X-CanV8P more power? Has anybody else noticed this at all? Maybe it's just me..

EDIT:I still can't believe how different the K701 sounds though the V8P! It's impactful and has a powerful full bodied sound, not lean at all. Bass is increased greatly. Still can't stress this enough. If you have a K701, this amp is for you!

Has anyone sent their V8P back to Musical Fidelity for their Fine-Tuning service? I understand that apart from the valves the amp is unmoddable as components have been glued in.
