Westone UM3X Thread

What are some good tips to try with the um3x? I got them in today overnighted then couldn't wait for them.

I have the shure clear tips they are kinda rigid but the opening at the tip of the bore I find to help mids and highs I also have the shure soft flex.

I also tried the klipsh medium gels those are good the fitment is nice they are soft but kinda fit on the nozzle weird.

I have some etymotic foam tips. I'm getting in the monster super tip adapter and monster super tips foams.

I'm on the edge of pulling the trigger on the Westone tru fit foam and silicone but I didn't have the best results with them on the w4r but might be better with the um3x?

Still giving them a listen I listened to them through my laptop but not yet through my rig. But from what I hear just through my laptop I'm thinking these are going to be very good with my rig

I do not like the Westone true fit foam tips.  The exit whole is too small and once on, I can't get them off with ruining the tip.  A regular comply tip would be far superior IMHO.

If you didn't like the star tips, I would imagine what you have will suffice.  I have no other recommendations.

Are you all finding any good deals on the UM3X?

Oh...and for those who've heard both, is the UM30 technically better or is it just different? I'm trying to put a price point on whether the upgrade is worth it...

I really wish EarphoneSolutions did one of those 25% off sales, including Westone. Their sales aren't quite what they used to be.

I am actually selling mine on a auction site as we speak, but I always liked the star tips the best. I loved my UM3X but really prefer W4R, just a preference, but the W4R is a lot more tip dependent.

UM30 is just the same imo. I think the minor/potential difference in sound can be attributed to the star tips. Not worth the upgrade unless your old UM3X died and you want the same thing in a new shell with different connectors.

Wow. Used? If new...please PM me :)

Mooses9...as of now, from the iems you have, what would the perfect pairing be, if you were to only pick two? I know you've been into the etymotics of late, too, so I was surprised by the UM3X. That was, until I looked at your collection!

i got them used their in excellent condition.

i stay within 3 brands really, shure, westone and etymotic.

as far as pairing Iriver IHP-140 Optical Out>Custom Sys Concepts Fiber Optic Cable>Ibasso db boomslang Optical In>RSA to Hirose Toxic Cable Silver Poison>RSA sr-71B

with THAT setup, if i had to choose 2 Iem's i Would say the Etymotic ER4PT+S & Shure SE535. The Etymotic er4 series line is by far the best iem i have ever heard at detail retrieval, phenomenal mids, phenomenal Highs, Excellent Vocals.. the er4 blow me away.....

The UM3X RC are excellent..i like to critically listen to music and etymotics do that.....but the um3x is a funner Iem....and i have for a while been eyeing the um3x since ive owned the w4r.

I can live with slightly rolled off treble (SE535, UM3X, UM2) but I cannot live with any IEM that has lite or polite bass.  I also cannot live with any IEM that distorts when turned up moderately loud.   Unless I had 3 bad pairs in a row, UE900 was the worst offender in this category.  Completely unacceptable at this pricepoint.

Moose, I just dug this link up for you from back about 5 years ago when I compared ER4P to UM3X.   LOL!!

Thread is only 3 pages so read all.  Some EXCELLENT comments  ( but my comments would be exact polar opposite from "Pianists").  Wish "Catscratch" and some other guys were still around.  Really enjoyed reading their posts.
