does ASIO / kernel streaming do anything for SQ?

never run into that

, but I turn the sound off on everything before its even allowed to run for long term usage (I've sat and checked through manpages for IDEs looking for "can this make sounds" before installing it, purely because I positively HATE random background noises (or the invariable system bell at 3 AM to wake you up

honestly I agree, it isn't worth the hastle for any minor improvement, and thats saying something (like I said, having an AVR did more for me, and I kept the AVR

hi, I am quite new to this forum and am still learning as how to describe differences in sound

But one thing I do know is that asio/wasapi makes a noticeable difference to how my sound sytem sounds. I have only used it on vista and windows seven (didn't know about it in my XP days

One of the biggest free upgrades to your sound you can do if you're running Windows XP or before.

I tried using Kernel Streaming on Winamp like you said, but now for some reason i can't play any songs. I just click on a song, and it instantly skips it to the next song, which then skips to the next, etc.
When i change it back to Nullsoft Direct Sound it works fine again though.
Do you know whats wrong?

If you can't tell the difference don't bother.. most of us seem to be able to tell the difference though.

Strange. Try turning off Gapless Mode.

Dont' worry about it, everone gets this message the first time ks is used. It won't show up again unless you reinstall it.

Still nothing. I've tried it with an ASIO plug-in for Winamp aswell, and that dosn't work either.

I installed ASIO4ALL before when i tried using an ASIO plug-in for Winamp. But that didn't work, so uninstalled it and tried the Kernel Streaming plug-in, but that dosn't seem to work either. grrrrr...

Just un-installed and re-installed. Still no luck.

Thanks for your effort anyway obobskivich.
Im convinced it has something to with audio drivers, or something painfully annoying like that.

UGH!

ok, next step I'd suggest is:
un-install and re-install audio drivers

if that fails:
try foobar2000 or VLC or something else (see if you can get ASIO or KS working through an alternate front-end, basically)
