I'm ready to pick up a pair of er-4p's now, but I'm not sure where to order from. So far, I've got two options:

headphone.com
-
ebay resellers

The difference between the two is shipping options, and about a 76 dollar difference. From personal experience, which of the two would you recommend ?

Thanks

Headroom's price is quite good, and when you factor in their return policy, it is the best way to go.

This supports a Head-Fi sponsor too.

Also, think about getting the 4P-4S adapter too. Many portables can still drive the headphones with the adapter and you get more detail. And you still return it if it doesn't work out if you buy from www.headphone.com

Don't buy from ebay. While Etymotic will give you great service no matter what, you don't officially get the one year warranty as you are not the original owner. So, if something pops up, you'll most likely have to pay for the service. It's better to buy from an authorized reseller, like HeadRoom.

I think that's a question of personal taste and what portable you are using. And if you have the 30 day policy, you can find out for yourself. I enjoy the added detail and realistic bass. The P sounds a little muddy sounding compared to the S. This is in use with an Ipod and is just my opinion. I also added a Headsave Transit amp to really bring the sounds out. I doesn't hurt to try it out.

Now in regards to the cable that turns the er4p into the er4s, is that standard or do I have to order that extra ?

The cable is extra. I think headroom has it for $49, etymotics has it for $65, or you can get an DIY adapter from www.fixup.net for $25.

I have both the real cable and a cable I got from fixup before he made the little adapters. I cannot tell the difference between the two. If you're interested, I could sell the fixup version for cheap.

Looks like I'm the only one who might think this, but I had no problems at all buying my 4Ps through an ebay retailer. Saved $, fast shipping, and they are under the same warranty no matter who you get them from. And if you do have problems with them they'll probably end up at Etymotic anyway.... that's who I would want working on mine.

I too, had a very good experience buying my Ety's thru an eBay reseller. See my feedback posted here at http://www4.head-fi.org/forums/showt...hlight=vendor.

I got them at a decent price, but then the seller would not accept Paypal without me paying the fee. Since I was not as confident, I opted for the 'safety' of paying thru Paypal anyway, on my dime. Shipping via USPS is definitely cheaper than Headroom's FedEx method. But in the end, the amount of $$ I saved was very little. And had I not liked them, I would not have had a very liberal return policy. I also did not support a Head-Fi sponsor (slaps own hand). If I had to do it again as a first time buyer, I'd go thru Headroom.
