I picked up a Pioneer PL-460 (turntable) from a new/used audio dealer in my hometown about 18 months ago. It came with a Signet TK2Ep cartridge, with an Audio-Technica replacement stylus.

I haven't been able to find much on either the turntable or the cartridge/stylus. I've seen talk on the internet about the Signet TK1E, TK3E and so on, but never discussion of the TK2Ep. Always skipped over.

Currently, the turntable is connected to a mid-90s 2-channel JVC Receiver. I use this receiver with my Rotel cd player too and tend to listen via vintage Mission speakers (cd or vinyl) or headphones (cd). Unfortunately, for vinyl, the level of surface noise this turntable set-up produces makes listening via headphone basically unbearable. Oddly, there is no such problem with speakers, which sound fantastic.

I'm planning on purchasing a Grado Black, or better, stylus in the near future and, perhaps, a dedicated phono preamp also. Overall, I'm content with the basic set-up, since I'm listening mostly to 1980s rock (Talking Heads, the Police, and Pat Benetar) or current lo-fi and indie records.

I recently bought, and had repaired, a B&O 4004 turntable with an MMC 20EN cartridge. My cost, about $250, new cost unknown. It sounds wonderful.

Tuner is a Kenwood KT-8300, bought used for $20. It sounds wonderful too, but is a bit cranky to tune on a station.

Bought a Rega P1 and a Pro-Ject wallmount at a demo sale a few weeks ago, and within the last week added 130 LPs to my dusted off collection.

A white P3-24 with PSU is sailing up into the pipe, so currently spinning on the nice sounding but beat-wobbly P1 (possibly dirty power), saving coins and researching carts. Maybe Benz Micro Ace, maybe Dyna 10x5... suggestions be taken into consideration.

I would put all the listed above in the high end thread. Granted when they were new, they were certainly less then $1000 but accounting for inflation they would be a LOT more today.

This does make one think about the whole cost vs performance deal. For me I think vintage TTs are still the way to go when seeking the most for the $$$. Yes they can be a bit of work and tend to not always be as user friendly as brand spankin new ones, but in the end I think it's worth the extra effort.
