Ugh, this is a horrible thread full of people bashing each other but that's understandable since the Eggos seem to be a phone which really polarize people. Personally, I love them, which came as a suprise to me because I read threads such as this one which painted them as mediocre. I'm glad I gave the Eggos a shot since they are currently my favorite phones--which suprises even me since I've put them against much more expensive and heralded cans. I've been having quite a bit of trouble finding phones I like more than these little guys.
I've tried almost every phone with low impedance (under 100 ohms or so) under $200 and I must say that to my ears the Eggos either beat or hold there own against all of them. An in depth analysis would take forever so I'll forgo that but I will just say that I prefer the Eggos to the sr225s (regardless of pads), CD1700, 240S, HFI-650 Trackmaster, Hp890, A900 and all the phones I've tried in the pricerange below these (below $100 and including almost everything except for the earcanal phones). I like the Eggos as much as the DT250-80, K271S and, here's the kicker, the CD3000!
The Eggos are a lot like CD3000s--similar sound signatures--the Eggos are a little less detailed and don't go quite as low in the bass as the CD3000s but they make up for their faults by providing a more pleasant, warmer tonal character that's never strident like the CD300s can be and provide a better soundstage (much better than the fake CD3000 soundstage which makes it sound like you're standing 5 feet from a band playing in a cave--too much reverb). Although I must say I didn't have a setup finetuned for the CD3000s (warm source, warm amp) I found the Eggos to be equal to them with what I had at the time (Revolution soundcard with a Meta42) whether amped or unamped.
You may notice that I have the HD600 and DT880 in my signature below well, unfortunately, they haven't arrived yet so I can't do a comparision between them. I also haven't been able to listen to my newely arrive Etys much yet so I can't compare them to those either. But if you haven't tried the D66 (or D77, if you can find them) Eggos yet I think you should give them a shot. I fell in love and am still in love with these cans--nothing I've tried can replicate their not-to-small-not-to-large-but-just-right soundstage and gorgeous midrange. Even for $100 I think they are a great bang-for-your-buck but get them used if you can--they normally go for $60-$70.
