I'm looking for a good deal on an SLC SSD, 2.5" (or 1.8" that can be rigged), IDE drive.

The 64GB Samsung SATA II SSD was an Open Box deal (it's gone) from Newegg.com

The 1.8" PATA SSD I got from eBay.

I'm thinking of getting another 16GB PATA 1.8" SSD and using this adapter.

There's a 1.8" to 2.5" PATA adapter here:

eBay. From an Australian seller. Will end up costing about $95. It's cheaper if you buy 10 at a time. The seller has tons of them. Want to go in on a group buy? Would end up costing about $60 each plus shipping. Well, depending on how the exchange rate is, it's been fluctuating a lot lately.

You mean this one? 10x Samsung 16GB Solid State Disk (Flash SSD) !NEW! - eBay (item 250307608464 end time Oct-22-08 04:46:20 PDT)

Hmm... I could use them in a few devices but not sure I want to spend that much yet. How many would you get and do you know others who maybe interested?

Ack. Price jumped a bit. It was under $600 for the 10 of them when I last checked it.
I'd want two or three. I know someone else that wants one. So that's Four so far. We just need enough people for 6 more. How many would you want.

Keep in mind these are the first gen Samsung SSD. Even they are SLC, they are half the read/write speed of the latest SSD drives. They'll be fast compared to older IDE PATA drives, but not much faster than the latest SATA drives (much faster access speed still, though. OS and Application loading will still be faster.).

So they're not as fast as the latest SATA desktop drives in sustained Read and Writes. But general use is snappier and much more responsive. The reason I'd be interest in these 1.8" Samsung PATA SSD drives is to use them in older machines that don't have SATA. 16GB is too small for Vista, but for Windows XP and other OS's it's large enough.

I could use a few also. One in my laptop, Ipod, and somewhere else.

Well, I pulled the trigger on a 32GB Samsung IDE 2.5" SSD drive. I think I'm set for SSD drives now.

This one is an older first gen SLC based drive, so it's the same speed as the 16GB 1.8" SSD I have in my Fujitsu P1610. I'll be using this 32GB drive in my Mini ATX based Pentium M computer. It will be completely passive. No fans whatsoever (well, except for that tiny fan inside the power brick). And the addition of SSD will make for a dead silent system.

anyone know how supertalent SSD drives are? They were pretty interesting, I own one of their usb drives (usb pico) and it's quite well built. Of course, it's quite a difference between manufacturing usb drives and SSD drives. Just curious on how they're doing now

Nice! You are not the only one who look into SSD today and for the future...

LOL, the AUD fell even more compared to the USD this weekend. Only a matter of time and the drives will be $20 each after shipping.

Indeed the 10 pack got cheaper. Next year is only Jan 1 anyway if you don't want to stick with your "this year" thing.
