Their price vs. performance ratio I would say...

couldn't they just use the search option, type in "bose" and get dozens of like posts?

I have no idea why but I enjoy watching DVD's on a Bose Acoustimass.

Everyone loves Bose until the day they hear something better.

Oh yes. In the late '70s, I had a friend whose father had a good sounding system in the family living room built around a pair of the 901s. They were very expensive, even by today's standards, but they sounded quite good to my teenaged ears. That's why I bought the 301s I referred to in my earlier post in this thread. To put it very politely, the 301s sounded nothing at all like the 901s. To put it less politely, the 301s sounded like something that rhymes with "spit."

The 901s were crap as well. My music theory prof bought a pair of them so I got to listen to them quite a bit. Thin sounding, no bass. In the '70s we had a pair we were auditioning hopping up and down on their bases squealing when attempting to play a Mahler 8 recording

I bought Infinity Monitors instead (but almost bought the ESS AMT-1s with the Heil tweeters).

Ok, so I'm just kidding. It's actually no big deal one way or the other to me, but if we can do anything to reduce the amount of 'useless noise' on the site, then I'm all for it.

The useless noise tends to make it that much harder to find something I may be looking for. Occasionally I have to sift through a mountain of threads to find something I may be looking for (in large part due to limitations of the search function).

I know a lot of people get told to "use the Search function" but I rarely have good luck finding anything with the Search unless I'm looking for posts or threads by specific users (in this case, it works perfectly).

I wish we could see more threads about Bose products that were discussion of the actual product, rather than just a bunch of, how shall I put this, "cooperative flame posts" I suppose.

Who knows; Bose might actually make something decent one day, and we'd never know because we're too busy slinging poo at the brand name!

I agree with you totally! I get tired of the ridiculous, childish bashing very fast. I'm gonna step out on a limb(and I'm sure someone is waiting with a chainsaw

) and say the same goes for Skullcandy. After Bose, the other perennial Head-Fi whipping boy seems to be Skullcandy. If you don't think they sound good, say that. This is a forum dedicated to how headphones sound afterall. But [excrement] like commenting on how they look or who wears them takes away from the quality of the forum. A new product was being discussed the other day. Comments like "rapper style phones" and "those things are ugly" came up a few times. Appearance is a relative trait, what one likes another may not. Plus it has no effect on sound or performance. I actually came to the defense because the SC brand is not that bad for a $10-$30 canalphone.

The same goes for Bose. Simply stating that "Bose sucks because it is Bose" does not add anything to the discussion. If anything, it takes away. I'm very new here and not that experienced or do I know everything, but there are alot of people who have been here for years and are experts on the subject of sound. Rather than scaring the knowledgeable people away with immature blather and name calling, we should have intelligent conversations and maybe some of the resident 'experts' can add to the discussion. Maybe, just maybe, Bose will find Head-Fi and take some advice and improve their products.

But hey, I guess that's just wishful thinking on my part...

Back to the regularly scheduled Bose bash

Buried deep in one of my posts in this thread, I had that same idea. But, of course, it wouldn't work. We would be seen as being biased against Bose, yada, yada.

It would seem most people don't like Bose is the quality of the build vs. cost. I do agree for what they are they are overpriced. I have not heard any of the headphones but have owned acoustamass 3's abd found them quite good for my HT mains. The cubes are now my surrounds...sound great there. I also had a set of 901 series 3 and loved those except they are hard to place in room that doesn't have square opposite corners. Just my 2 cents

Anytime I talk to a new person about audio, they ask me "How about Bose?".

This is for one reason and one reason only... Marketing. Not quality products.
My response to them, instead of bashing Bose, is to tell them, that "they can purchase better products for the same amount of money".

When you first listen to a Bose Lifestyle system or an Acoustimass Module with cubes, or a Wave radio, it sounds pretty good. Then compare it to most anything in the same price range and you will hear that the middle frequencies are missing, and their products, which are made mostly out of plastic, don't sound as good as competitive products.

I owned a pair of Series IV 901's from 1980 all the way up until 2001 (during which time they upgraded me to Series VI because the polypropelene deteriorated around the drivers, which they knew was a known problem and for $300 offered to send a brand new pair), and I can say with experience that for $1600 (I paid $600 because I was in the audio business when I first bought them) there were dozen of speakers that blew them away, sound and quality-wise, for less money.
