Good call, remedied

The leather earcups/headband padding definitely feels alot better than the velour on the Pro 750. The size of the earcups suits me fine as well, it makes a nice snug fit that should be perfect for rocking out

And man are they things of beauty. I had them delivered to the office, where all my co-workers were expecting to say "you spent so much money on THAT?", but even they were silenced when the flight case emerged from the swimming pool of packing beans, and the lid opened to reveal the gleaming black chrome earcups.

Alex did a top-notch job packing them, although I'm slightly dissapointed that the V3 cable is too thick to fit within the flight case properly. That's a shame for portability.

I'll post initial impressions after I get them home and have a listen out of the Pico

I'll take a photo soon of the proper way to pack them in the flight case - they do fit properly if done right! (but no photo at 1AM here)

What is it with these ultrasones? Its the most controversial brand ive ever encountered. Its really a love/hate thing and nothing in between. I really have to get my hands on the edition 9 or one of the pro models one of these days

It really is. When I owned one ED9, I always felt that I'm missing out a certain natural, or typicalness that I find in other headphones. After selling them and seeing to several predecessors, the ED9 remains at the peak of my "most missed headphones" list.

Haha, I bet your IM responses will be limited to "ahh, mids so nice", or "oh, that was nice dynamics" or "ooh, I didn't hear that before"

Anyway, waiting on your impressions which I bet will be a good read.

Do the 9's just the price tag? Either folks LOVE them or HATE them. I'm a huge STAX lover and for me I do not mind spending $$ in order to keep my ears happy....

If they weren't so damn expensive, I'd really, really love to share my Ed 9s with people

I was curious too, so when a local head-fi'er offered to trade me my old APS V3 sennheiser cable and his Pro 750 for a few weeks, I bit to find out what the fuss was.

...and look where it got me. My wallet hates you, Ross!

That'd be awesome if you could Larry, that flight case is too nice to not put it to use

Initial impressions:

Ergonomics is much improved. The oval, smaller earcups make for a much snugger fit, I'm not constantly fiddling and adjusting like I was with the Pro 750. The leather is definitely a luxury feeling too, very nice compared to that itchy velour. Clamping force is a bit too high for comfort at the moment though, but I expect that to relax over time. And yay for dual-entry cable, no more bumping into that damn Pro 750 cord with my shoulder!

The first thing I noticed audially is an increase in clarity and resolution over the Pro 750. Problems with my source material that the Pro's glossed over have become more audible, and really well recorded material leaps out at me with remarkable clarity. Its like I was previously peering through a slightly misted window, and now someone's come along and removed the window panes.

There seems to be a deeper, weightier bass response than the Pro's as well. The overall coherence of the headphone is slightly lacking at the moment though, images and attacks are a little diffuse.

These are brand new though, and still in their first few hours of burn in. More impressions to come later

It sounds like the Edition 9 has earcups similar/same size and shape as my HFI-780.

Dang! This is tempting me to switch from my beloved PRO 750 to the Edition 9, too....

My wallet has started whimpering yet again...I hate it when it does that....
