How do you answer this question? It's probably the most annoying question I keep getting asked after I disclose my headphone's price.

make sure you got nice amp, hit the phones to questioners head, and turn to maximum volume and let them decide.

If you go to www.brighthand.com and go to the Palm/Tungsten discussion boards, you'll see many a such idiotic post. My normal handle of Plainsong was taken, but if you were to surf those headphone postings, you could probably play "Spot the Head-fier."

And I still don't know how to answer that "do they go loud" question.

I'd say hit the questioners head with the phones. Then call him/her an ignoranus.

blessingx, are you mad? why to wreck your expensive headphones on head made of wood when you can make them deaf, or get them to drop on their knees screaming from pain. I bet not many ppl you ask the same question about the phones when word gets out.

I took a listen to the Sony v-phones at Stockmann, they really were craptacular.

edit - It's tough not to loose my patience over there. I come across as sounding like an elitist snob, and they don't really care about the sound anyway - which would be why they're trying to use a Tungsten as an mp3 player. But even in the 30 dollar range you can improve the sound, so I just don't get it.

Just glare at them real hard since these kind of people think sound is all about volume and bass.

I'm going to be slightly controversial here...

Loudness DOES matter to me... I have a noisy assed computer with 2 x front fans (one sucking air in, and the other as a front exhaust fan) two at the back (exhausts) and the obligatory CPU and PSU fans... quite noisy...

Seeing that I do most of my headphone listening when I get in from work, whilst in front of my computer, unless the 'phones are very closed (ETYs) then to me volume DOES make a difference, and I DO abuse my 'phones.. but never to the point of total insanity...

Which specific Sony V-phones did you listen to? Small and black, small and silver, big and black or big and silver?

i hate it when people ask stoopid questions like this too...
but you gota understand....those people who understand nothing about headphones can only use the word "loud" to describe sound...
just take your time and explain to them there there are more then "loudness" in headphones

I think you have three options here...

a) Yes
b) No
c) Blank stare.. or, if online.. respond with *blink*.

those responses suck. here is mine: One does not spend $300 on headphones that do no more than "go loud," you ****ing half-wit. ever hear of "quality?" are your ear canals so clogged with little penises that you dont give a damn how **** sounds? bah, **** you and your loudness.

in actuality, i have never been asked this question, as my friends are all phonically learned enough to connect quality with price.
