IEMs: Love 'em or Hate 'em?

Love my IEMs to bits -such superb sound from such small packages.

And my Domestic Goddess never comments on why I have to have more than one, unlike my full size phones, lol.

They're far too small for our utterly disinterested wives to notice. She's never noticed earbuds or IEMs.

For example, last weekend my wife dropped off my Super.fi 5 RMA at the post office for me full knowing my tale of woe about how they died the same day I ordered the trips and still had no idea I was wearing new phones even though they're metallic blue and prominently stuck in my ears.

Conversely, the cheapest full headphones in the world will elicit some variation of the "Another one???" even if they were something I just found in a box from 20 years ago.

Love em, absolutely love em!

They are more my staple ATM, due to degree of travelling and timing of listening (late at night). Yes, I do like them a great deal, but I have to still reserve the word 'love' for my electrostatics.

I like them for when I need the isolation but overall I voted no. I cant stand the plugged ears sounds and feeling for a long time, especially if I have the music paused for whatever reason.. it makes me feel claustrophobic. Even though I can do it fairly quickly they are a pain to put in and no matter what they are never anywhere near as comfy as my PK1. For me, the Yuin PK earbud is the perfect portable phones.

I have yet to find an IEM that sounds balanced and fun to listen like a 15$ pair of Koss KSC-75. The only reason I use IEMs is for the isolation in noisy places like bus and metro, but otherwise I'll take full-size anytime over them.

Love them for in the train or air travel. Took some time for me to get used to the in ear feeling. Started with the cheap Sony EX-71 and moved up to the Shure SE530. For in the house I prefer full size cans for the better comfort.

Love mine for the portability. I barely listen to music at home so I have no need for full size cans.
Only got cx300's atm, but hopefully getting some propper IEM's like UM1's soon.

I agree. This poll would have been more effective B4 the IEM section opened. Therewould be more exposure on the main forum.

Maybe we can get a link to this poll on the headphone forum too?

I like them fine for what they are; but I don't carry them around as much as I used to. I carry my Edition 9's most everywhere in a small backpack. The ability to "fold" the Ultrasone's was the final kicker. Before that, I went back and forth from IEM's to my Grado RS-1's "laid down" when I could manage the space.

i find IEM's quite comfortable and really am amazed at the sound.

the music is both inside my brain and with a spacious soundstage. it is hard to explain.

then again i have never heard high end headphones properly driven save for the akg k501.

but for portability, i mean it is sick. i can have a lil zune with some triple.fi's in a pocket and have some serious sound. whats not to love about that?

A coworker puts it best. He's a very sensitive kind of guy. He says when using IEMs he feels violated.

You really need to add a third option to the poll. It's a love-hate relationship, to be sure.
