iPod or Amplifier

iPod all the way. Why would you need an amplifier if you don't have one of the best sources ever. (not in soundwise, but everythingelse-wise)

iPod. I just got a classic 10-giger. Love it. It powers my Ety ER4S just fine.

If I was on a (relative) budget, I'd look at the Sony D-66 Eggos. A very nice combo with the iPod.

Get the iPod .........
After that you'll automatically have the urge to get an Amp, at least I did

I'm just thinking the iPod can drive my HD580s to modernate levels and shall be able to do better with the lower impedence HD590s that he's got ...

An amp's a fine addition at a later point to improve the overall experiance and give a volume boost when needed but at least in my opinion source comes before amp ... maybe my opinion's all screwed up tho

Why not get an amp *for* your iPod?

The proper status accessory would seem to be Headamp's projected miniamp in a brushed aluminum case. The amp's going to be engraved even if the back of your iPod isn't.

Now if you'll excuse me, I must return to pondering the possible origin of the skull of the missing girl scout that seems to have turned up in the construction yard next door (if the locale I saw on the news just now is really as familiar as I posit).

What about the HD600s? Have you tried them? I have them and the iPod amp clips a little under heavy bass, but other than that they sound very good with the iPod, although not as loud as I would like on some tracks.

yes, maximum volume of the iPod's not the best idea ... however it works decent with most stuff...obviously the line out + amp'd be much better, I'm just saying for casual listening it's fine but if I want to blast it I'd a) use my Porta Pros b) get a freakin' amp already ...

Amped sound'd be very nice, only issue I can possibly think of is the amp being more likely to highlight the famous "clicks" between tracks ... something I'd be willing to deal with until the people at Apple figure out a way to fix it if possible.

Back when I barely got my HD580s people said I'd be fine without an amp for a while, and in fact I'd truly appriciate its addition only when I KNOW the sound of my cans unamped ... soooo I've gotten to know it pretty well, now I think I'm almost settled with computer upgrades for a while so I might finally save up to build me/else buy me

/ a META-42 or a Gilmore depending on how much time/money I wanna spend ... so back to the question, unamped iPod'd be just fine for a while, and then getting the amp'd only help ... besides I'd wait for the "superDocks" rumored to come out sometime this summer because they have the RCA connectors so I get to use one of these free (I feel lucky when I get such presents) Radioshack Monster cables I got here...
