Is ER-4P worth it

actually you might want to get them from custumearsets

most people agree that the ety sound is great. it's far more common to have fit problems. this place will make custom molds for only $30 more and you can opt on that anytime as long as you purchase from them. other places charge $100 for custom molds. Nice insurance

I've never dealt with this company, it just sounds like a good deal. You should also do a search about custom molds because there is some dissagrement about their sound quality.

That happens all the time on airplanes. People insist on trying to talk to me when I am listening. I always take the Ety's out and talk for a time. Toward the end I slip in how the jet noise bothers me and that these block out all sounds making the flight tolerable. More often than not I am able to go back to the music and they leave me alone.

One day while I was wearing the ER4Ps outside some girl tried to stop me to do a questionnaire--I couldn't hear a thing she said

The problem is she still managed to stop me--she all but made like I was carrying a soccer ball and she is defending her side

I even had to take off my phones

My dad's phone call saved me

i feel the flames rising already.

IMO, i don't think they're worth it. and yes i own them.

they're very piercing. physically and sonically.

i think they're way too analytical. i didn't understand what this word meant until i bought ety's.

soundstage? the music is centered at a point about the size of an electron in the middle of your head.

microphonics blow. haven't tried any mods. don't care.

when putting them in, my ear canal gets pressurized, and it hurts. either they slowly even the pressure out by themselves, or your ears get used to it.
hurts my eardrums though.

having music injected straight into my eardrum hurts, even at low volumes. the pressure waves originate like a centimeter from your eardrum!

no bass impact. please don't bring up the "they have lots of bass. it goes all the way down to 20hz and beyond" argument. they don't have impact . period. bass equilizer helps this, but that makes my eardrums hurt even more.

i think ety's have upped my tinnitus a little... also note there have been occasions where i have turned them up for a few songs.

they isolate like no other though.

You don't have to listen to me since headroom has such a sweet-ass return policy though. actually, hahah, you should buy'em from me! i'm gonna put them up in the for sale forum in a few days after i finish my finals. I think i just failed "marketing", though.

I would go with the ER-4P just because of the all around performance. Its comfortable(to most), has great sound, and can be listened to from just about anywhere. I have never heard the ER-4P but if its like the "S" its an incredible headphone. Just my .02

Like sentral dogma has stated, sometimes the Ety's aren't for some people. When comparing them to a huge soundstage coming from my W1k's, the Ety's don't have a small soundstage, but not a big one...but, IMO, it's certainly not pin point...it pretty much feels like the soundstage takes up all the space inside my head, which is a lot of empty space

And for me, the bass is my favorite kind. Yeah it lacks some "impact" (not like headphones really have visceral bass anyways), but the clarity of every bass note that goes down to YES, 20hz is simply astonishing. In my mind, there is no better phone that I've heard to date, that beats the Etymotic ER4S paired with a good amp!

Dogma: I am sure you have heard this already, but here it is. I have felt that pressure you are talking about. I think you need to try a different method of inserting them. Pushing them in too far for me gets that pressure. It also blocks parts of the music. Or try the foam tips.

This is what I thought too before I found a good seal. Then "Holy crap!"

i only use the foamies! I squeeze them all the way down, quickly swing my hand up to my ear, then I slide them in real slow and i don't put them far at all. still, they create a pressurized chamber that "links" the sound wave directly to your eardrum. other non-ear canal phones can leak pressure when the driver creates a sound wave. i think the latter is much healthier.

sentral dogma,

There have been many times where a person has said to me that they feel too much pressure with the Ety's regardless of what they use. Here's one thing I don't think you've tried. A lot of people have really small ear canals, like me. So, try ordering the smaller sizes of the silicone or foamies. It might relieve the pressure and make for a better experience. If in fact, this is the problem, you'll notice the true Ety signature sound right away. It's worth a try anyways
