You know, the Subaru WRX can be significantly improved by aftermarket mods - coilover suspension and springs, bigger anti-sway bars, nicer tires, catback exhaust, boost controller, etc. Doesn't mean that Subaru shouldn't be building AWD turbo cars just because they improve with mods.

They have a price point to meet, and they make the cans or cars just good enough to bring in the required price for the desired profits.

In no way was my statement negative, I was saying that it probably has interested atleast someone at Denon enough to show their boss, maybe they contacted him, or the D7000 deconstructed post, regardless Markl rocks and TPA and I are both looking for D7K modded to the max soon, I just am curious on Markl's idea of the J-Money Pads

I don't think anyone took your post as negative.

BTW I'd also like to hear from Mark regarding the Jmoney pads. Justin of Jmoney advised me recently that he is no longer selling direct but his pads will soon be carried by a retailer. I don't want to say which in case it's not something he wants publicly known yet.

EDIT: I corresponded with Jeremy from J-Money. I'm Sorry about that.

Does that mean they will end up costing more money? I gave mine to my dad that sucks what do I do now for my pair?

I would almost bet a paycheck that once they are sold through a retailer that they will come with a hefty markup in price. I bought a pair of Jmoney B-stock Denon pads on eBay for precisely this reason.

Edit: BTW I bought them because I ordered a pair of D7000's Wednesday, haven't added to my sig because I don't have them yet.

They are a no brainer.

I heard at least one person was too keen on the sound, but in your opinion, do you they they improve the sound just as the Markl stuffing method does? I think someday it would be nice to upgrade with a pair of these.

I don't think it's quit that simple. Denon is known for their consumer electronics first and foremost, but their headphones are remarkably good. So that tells me that the engineers that designed them knew what they were doing. But all engineers are not free to design the best they can (unless they work for Bugatti). They are almost always told "design the best you can....within these budget constraints".

I agree that it does come down to cost and I've said it before these headphones must cost pennies, it doesn't matter if we're talking D2000 or D7000 there will be very little price difference when it comes down to manufacturing and materials. After all how much does a little extra fluff cost to plump up the ear cushions or dampening wool inside the ear cup.

We're not talking about cars where agreeably an after market mod can improve the stock model for a cost, we're talking about a little extra fluff like I said in response to cswann1. If these headphones were built like this in the first place; headphone covers molded a little differently, dampening material and extra fluff in the ear pads the costs would literally be pennies... and pennies to turn a $250 headphone into a much better sounding one, are you kidding me?

Just look at those $30 Skullcandy headphones, the headbands on some of them are so comfortable and plump yet an after market headband like one of these for an 'audiophile' headphone would cost $30 (if not more) alone. I'll go out on a limb and say headphones are built with defects on purpose so you always buy the newer models, each time a small improvement is made in a new release.

I don't have stock pads to compare to - I listened to my LA7000 with the stuffed pads and the JMoney pads and there was little difference other than comfort.

When I stuffed my D2000 pads I did mahogany cups at the same time - and the improvement was not small. I have not listened to stuffed pads with a stock D2000 plastic cup ever, and the last time I heard stuffed pads with a stock wooden cup on a D5000 was last year.

I have both (side by side), what I thought first has changed a bit w/ more listening time. With some songs I prefer the MarkL modded pads and w/ a few the JMoney pad, I need more time.

However as far as comfort the JMoney are it, plus the cost like 60% of a new pair of Denon pads.

Markl I am curious as to your position on the J-Money Pads

Hi, we have no "position" per se on these pads one way or another, FWIW. They were developed independently of Lawton Audio, and are not made to our specifications or with our input.

Thanks, Markl.

About how long til I can get a pair of the pads for myself J-Money? I gave my original D7000 and the pads I got to my father and my new pair of denons need some new pads I miss the difference in sound!
