Sony Announced NWZ-A820 series.....finally 16GB Sony DAP's

I ve had lots of Sony DAP's and I cant remember one firmware update... Sony tend to release the finished article as oppossed to half baked like some ocmpeitors in order to get to market quicker...

I hate to be thinking about it already, but I wonder where Sony is going to go next....

Ano, the sony is great sounding little player but thats about it. I can't help but crave some more! It would be great if sony did firmware updates- look at the D2 and P2! Wheres the evolution sony?! I get the feeling sony are both lazy and greedy. Ah but then so am I!

Anyone else disappointed in this?

I picked up my 16GB and am impressed with the sound quality but disappointed with the volume. It sounds like the AVLS is on but it isn't. Turning up the volume seems to just keep everything at a constant level. I've played around with settings continuously and it just doesn't cute it.

My old player is a 20GB NW-HD5 but its jack is broken. Despite that, I'm sticking to it for now.

If the A829 is like the A818 in the volume department, then I really can't say that I am disappointed. If you're using IEMs, I'd say anything higher than volume level 18 is too loud. Obviously if you're not using IEMs this will be drastically different, but I don't truly feel Sony's players were designed for full-sized, high-impedance headphones.

So no, i really didn't find volume to be a problem for me personally.

They are greedy for sure. I don´t think there will be a firmware update although the device needs one to sort out problems like year and album art sometimes not showing despite proper tags. The A82x was not really an effort at all. It´s the world version of a DAP that has been out in Japan for a few months sans the TV Tuner part (with some minor) refinements.
Given the capacity of a player such as Sony I really would expect more.
On the other hand, I am happy to see them back in a market that needs more competition.

I have the UK/Euorpean model, I initially used the Sony MDR-EX90LP although sound very good was generally very quiet.. I didnt get any volume increase after volume 18... Ive since bought the SE530 which sound very loud, loudness with quality too...

Im not saying you need to go and spend £100s more pounds but maybe try different headphones as they really do make a diff...

look around other threads to find out what to look for in the tech specs...

Good luck and hope you find the right pair.

How do you like your SE530s? Do you like how they sound when paired with the Sony?

I have the Tomahawk and the Go-vibe magnum. When I link the Sony 829 with the Go-vibe Magnum using the Shure 530, via the headphone output (there is no line out) the sound is superb especially as I can adjust the bass on the Go-vibe. The sound that issues from the headphone output is very good as all the equaliser adjustments remain perfectly in place.
The Tomahawk lacks punch compared to the Go-Vibe; in fact, it sounds disappointingly anaemic.
Using the UE 10F is also great, although I love the sweetness of thr 530 and its deep sonority.
