Where can one purchase a cable that on one end is 3.5MM and the other end optical digital. (Std Square connector)

..for use with Macbook Pro headphone out jack, which doubles as a digital optical out Via 3.5MM. I cannot seem to locate this type of cable at RadioShack, BB, or the Apple Store even. The Apple store has a whole kit of stuff, which includes a cable of this kind. But I do not require the whole kit, just the cable. This is the same type of cable that one may use with a MiniDisc player, or Discman which employs Digital Optical Out Via 3.5MM.

thx

MBP SPDIF out is all optical. You are looking for a "mini toslink" connector to plug into your laptop. You can get an adapter from Headroom for about 2 bucks. They also sell a nice short optical cable. If you need anything else from Headroom, ICs or other such stuff, add on the mini adapter and use your existing optical cable. Shipping from HR makes ordering just the mini adapter not cost effective.

You can also get a pre made cable as listed above with regular toslink on one side, and mini on the other. If you google 'mini toslink' you should get a nice variety to search for.

What you ordered is what you need. When most people talk about spdif, they mean coax, but that's fine, both are spdif.

Nice thx, is there a device or adptr to turn signal from MBP (either Via USB or Headphone/minijack out) that transforms to digital coaxial?

If you have a Fry's nearby, check there. I picked up a mini toslink to optical cable there. Both ends were standard squarish optical jack, but had the mini adapters on both ends, held on with rubber "bands."

Nothing fancy. Under $20, I think. Probably more $$$ than online, but I wanted mine ASAP.
