My father is getting a new home theater system and went to the local hifi store looking for a speaker setup. While there the salesman recommended replacing his older Sony Dolby Pro Logic receiver with an Integra Audio unit. Anyone know anything about them? I never heard them.

On a similar note, I know that Outlaw makes descent cables, but how about their receivers? Anyone have any experience with them?

Integra is supposed to be the high quality offspring of Onkyo - similar to Lexus and Toyota.

Outlaw makes a very nice receiver for $499, the model 1050. It is listed as 65Wpc, but that is a very conservative rating. This is a very heavy receiver. It will do the typical Dolby Digital and DTS as well as Dolby Pro Logic. It will also do a matrixed rear center channel. It does not have some of the newer modes such as Dolby Pro Logic II, DTS-es or any THX post-processing. It has pre-outs for external amplification and inputs for DVD-A or SACD players. I personally like this receiver a lot and use it with external amplification.

They also make an $899 Preamp/processor, the Model 950. This preamp/processor does have most modern processing modes (except THX) and will actually do matrixed 7 speaker output. It also has better stereo bypass capabilities than the 1050. I will actually be upgrading shortly to the 950, but will still keep my 1050 for a second system.

Yes, Integra is Onkyo's flagship line.

In the past, I owned an Integra DTR-5 surround receiver. Very high build quality for the price and excellent sound. It excelled at stereo reproduction through the analog inputs and the surround processor was more than adequate for my setup and the pricepoint.

Although you should also look long and hard at comparable Denon and Marantz receivers, Integra is right up there with them.

Integra is the Onkyo "ES" line.

I own a DTR 7.2 and It is a pretty great buy. Has much more power thn the Dennon/others. I found its 2ch stereo to be the most impressive of any Full integrated in the price point.

A DTR 5.1 checking in here. It's really quite nice, as a receiver goes. Handles 2ch and home theatre very well. Conservative power rating, I'd say.
