Christmas time will be approaching us in a few months, and I'm trying to come up with a Christmas gift idea for my parents (Yes, I'm nearly 30 and they still buy me fancy non-headphone Christmas presents. Jealous enough?)

I'm trying to decide between suggesting an XBox 360, a Wii, or a PSP. I borrowed a PSP last Christmas and I loved it. I played it quite a bit, and it has some games on it that I know I like. The XBOX 360 - I mean, Halo 3! Common! And it has possibly the best game line up of any of the new systems. The Wii on the other hand has the new aproach to gaming, Zelda and Metroid.

So I'm stumped. I'm not certain I'll suggest any of these - I'm also contemplating a TiVO, but I'd like your input.

Xbox 360 would be my choice. Lovely game selection and lots of hardcore adult ridden titles.

Wii if you want some casual good times (besides the new Metroid, drool!)

hows the metroid? uber cool?

I'm a Wii owner but I would have to say that if your parents are buying it go with the XBox 360. I love the Wii, don't get me wrong, but the catalog of games is really lacking comparatively. I know that will get better over time due to the ridiculously high console sales, but by that time you can probably afford a Wii as a second system anyway

Wii just because I'm predicting it'll be hard to get this Christmas.

I have a Wii and 360.

For Parents, I would think the wow factor and ease of use of a Wii would win hands down. the 360 is more powerful, with games like Halo3 etc, but the titles for the Wii that they interact with like bowling, tennis and golf i find older folks attracted to, as the controllers allow them interact with the game, its harder for them to figure out all the buttons on the XBox controllers... Wii interface would win in my book for your application. It doesnt take up a lot of room either and is super easy to set up.

And yes metroid prime III is awesome. Halo 3 is the game of choice for my older son and metroid prime III for my younger one. the graphics and game play on both is stunning on HDTV. There are lots of cool toys out there for your parents Im sure anything you get them they will appreciate.

Either the Wii or 360, though I'd lean towards the latter. Only get the PSP if you absolutely *need* portability.

360 has a dominant line up, and will continue next year when COD Modern Warfare comes out. As of now they have:

Forza Series
Halo Series
GTA Series
COD Series
Bioshock
Gears of War
R6V

If you are a 1st person shooter type gamer, 360 is the way to go. Best online play EVER.

Casual gamer and often have company = Wii.

Been gaming for a while and appreciate deeper games, better graphics, and online play = 360.

Most gaming time spent in airplanes or mass transit = PSP.

I read on Cheap A*s Gamer that the 360 will likely be bundled with Forza and a Marvel game before the holidays, so if you go that route, make sure to wait for it.

FWIW The PSP slim is currently being bundled in a Jack and Dexter game IIRC and comes with a few other accessories for $30 more than the core unit.

Yep! This pretty much sums it up! I voted for Wii.

BTW I love my PSP for games, but it becomes a great wifi media machine if you have a PS3. You can even watch live TV on it from any wireless location if you have Orb running on a computer with a TV tuner and a PS3 to access it.
