I have a Yamaha RX-V1300 receiver and occasionally listen with Headphones (Sens 580's). I use a total airhead amp that is normally with my nomad portable and ety er6's. My question is do I need a better amp for the occasional listening I do on my home unit, or is the protable airhead enough? If it isn't what would you suggest as the lowest cost alternative? Thanks

Great choice in cans, jackson.

Right off the bat, I would suggest a mains power supply for using the TA at home. I am not a big proponent of the Airheads, but with an external PS, the improvement will be dramatic. You need something that puts out from 5-15volts regulated, and at least 300mA (more is ok). I have a variable ps from Radio Shack that I used with mine. It went from 4.5V-12V, @800mA. Interestingly (or not), I found that I preferred the 6V setting best.

After that, hold onto your wallet. It's going to be a bumpy ride
