New Album - Volta by Bjorg

After a few listens I started to get into it. But, I really thought the guy singing was horrid the first time. Now it is bearable. I buy bjork albums to hear her voice plain and simple and those two songs are a little disappointment.

Either I would like to hear something on par with Homogenic. Vespertine was pretty close imho.

At least this album is a little easier to listen to than Medulla so I am happy.

Still no rumors about a possible SACD release?

I think Bjork was pressured into making something a little more commercialized this time around. Her last two releases were kind of out of there for pop records (Vespertine's percussion tracks were made from house-hold objects, and Medulla was almost entirely vocals-only), so Volta is probably just what the record label wanted to get her name back on the pop map.

I like some of it, but most of it just seems a little unfocused and lacking in direction and stance. Her last couple of releases have stood their ground firmly, but this record seems to get lost in all of the vast instrumentation and the special contributors (the male voice - ugh). The opening track, "Earth Intruders" is kind of nice, but again, the majority of it I don't dig as much.

i've listened to it a few times and like it...but does not compare to what it was live last night at the Auditorium Theater. it was explosive, literally, like there were pyrotechnics and lazers.
