GOOD GRIEF! If it's a powered sub that only takes a line input, as you've indicated, then you can't run it off the main speaker taps without severely overloading the input. It can't possibly sound good that way, and you may even have damaged the circuitry.

(However, if it has inputs with binding posts for speaker cables, then it probably IS made to take an amp output, not just line level.)

It has binding posts AND as I've said, the input impedance is over 10k...

Well so much for my system. I don't know as much about hers.

Her speakers are the RA Labs BG Reference 4a... how hard to drive are those?

Edit: she says 90dB... this really sounds like a quality problem rather than power problem

My speakers are 6ohms too and my 20Wpc amp has no trouble...

I've been trying to convince her to do like me and plug both the speakers and sub directly into the Denon speaker output, but she just wouldn't listen

women. can't live with 'em. can't kill 'em.

why don't you make the switch yourself? just lock her in the bathroom and tell her you're doing it for the sake of better sound quality...

To her credit she is just refusing to switch because she doesn't want to take the trouble rather than because she thinks the current setup is better for some mysterious reason
