They're a different driver design, very similar to planar. Think Martin Logan.

Unfortunately before their plans for world domination were successful the company went under. New Stax are working hard, but it'll be a long time before they're in a position to bring about the new world order.

Any suggestions on where I should start? Maybe with Beyerdynamic since I already have a couple so it gives me a head start..

Ideas?

Although I knew just from reading the title that this was a joke, I still feel a need to comment.

I checked your sig and your profile. Assuming they are all up to date and accurate:

As a self proclaimed AKG aficionado, it is a crime and a sin against all that AKG stands for that you do not own (nor have you ever owned) a pair of K1000s. You haven't yet heard or owned the best that AKG has to offer, which is perplexing to me, especially when considering your love for all that is AKG.

Do yourself a favor, and score a pair of K1000s - arguably the best dynamic headphone in existence (at least IMHO). Even if you have to sell all of your other AKG phones to raise the funds, it will be totally worth it.

No AKG collection is complete without (at least) 1 pair of K1000s.

There, I said it.

Ah ok, if that is the case then I feel better and everything makes sense now. And it is also proof that he is a crack smoker.

I kid, I kid.
