Who Just Bought The Latest RKV?

tone,

now you got me scared, so I went and checked my tubes for diamonds on the bottom. None of them have one. One has the number 2, one has a 7, the other two are blank. One tube is marked Lorenz and looks quite used, while the other three are nice and look brand new in every way. Weird, huh??

I will be listening to the amp for the next week or so to get the equipment burned in and my ears used to the sounds of the amp, then I'll swap tubes and see what I hear. If anything. Many have said they didn;t hear any changes with tuberolling, but I like Tele tubes, so I'm really hoping they do something.

What makes this amp nice is tubes are plentiful, not in demand, and cheap!!! Jan Meier sells the RCA, Tele, and Polamp tubes for about $7.50 each shipped. You can't beat that for the sound quality they produce!! The band for your buck ratio on these tubes is off the scale. Now if we can keep Nick Dangerous away from another tuberolling frenzy and report on this amp we might stand a chance of keeping a big stash of the tubes for many years to come.

Hi ServinginEcuador,

Yeah it kinda sucks not knowing about the telefunken tubes. from what i've read its a crap shoot. Apparently real telefunken tubes may or may not have the diamond stamp on the base. But then again the non-telefunken tubes with the telefunken label will not have the diamond stamp on the base either.

The real telefunken tube that i have (with the stamp) is quite different in construction compared to the 3 other questionable tele tubes (with the number on the base). the amp sounds great with them so that is all that counts!

Thanks for the info on the tubes from Meier. Do you know if he has any mullard pcl805 tubes? Mullards are my favorite for my guitar amps but i hear that telefunkens are more neutral and are fantastic for hifi gear.

I think NickDangerous has his audio money wrapped up in his oris gear so i think we are safe. i hope!

Yeah, it's a crap shoot as to whether or not they're real, but at least all of what I got look identical. If you'd like I'll take a close-up of a tube so you can compare it to what you have and see if they're different or not.

Right now Jan Meier only has RCA, Tele, and Polamp tubes for the RKV. I just ordered 8 more to keep me in tubeville for many years to come. I will probably leave my Teles behind and have all 12 tubes cryo treated together to make them last longer and sound better. IT really works.

True, Nick is kinda wrapped up in those speakers, whcih should tell us how good they are. Coem to think of it, I haven't seen him posting here for quite a while??? Weird.

Sure go ahead and post a close up picture of one your telefunken tubes when you have the time.

I've never got into cryo treating tubes. What does it do to the sound? does it give better clarity or something?

I remember liking the polamps tubes in the rkv so i may have to order some of those again. the polamps must be mullard knockoffs cause they have the 4 seams on the top of the tube and they flash when they are first turned on just like mullard tubes!

Those tubes are identical to the 3 non diamond stamped base teles that i have. they even have the same date code on the side (i assume that is what it is).

one of these days i'm gonna have to break down and buy myself one of those digital cameras. they do come in handy sometimes.

You're welcome!! Digital camera do come in handy, but they also save you money since they never really cost again unless you print them. I love the fact that you can take a photo, preview it, and decide if you want to keep it. You can also shoot a shot for someone and post it on the 'net so quickly it ain't funny.

I was wondering if the new versions you just received had the revised top? My still has not arrived and was wondering whether it would have the old or the new top plexiglass plate.

The new tops won't be coming our way for close to another month according to Jan Meier. He says like last Jan or so.

Is the new top actual glass or plexiglass?

Glass with nice holes cut into it for ventilation.

Bob, since I'm obviously no expert (joke) it is outstanding. It comes with foam padding between the circuit board and cover to hold things in place internally so that they don't break off the circuit board, and the circtui board doesn't move around. Around the amp were tons of those same high density foam pieces that padded the amp from the sides and several the went half way round the amp iteslf. All in all the packaging was quite well done. Sorry to say that mine survived the trip without a scratch.
