@kodhifi give the tubes about 40 hours and you should hear some changes throughout. The Lyr shouldn't make an oomph sound... I suspect that would be hard on the headphones! That's my only comment on that. If you know what I'm saying...

Thanks. We need an app or something to track time on equipment. Internet make it so! This thing is getting a little.....warm after several hours of continuous use. So much so that I'm concerned about my DAC in it's plastic case sitting on the top (off to the side not near the tubes)

BTW, I wouldn't call the 650's veiled anything on the Lyr. Happy? Bwahahahah
I ordered a Modi 2 uber so I can ditch the soundblaster. I really don't like that there isn't a true 'direct mode' on it. The bluetooth is always digitally mixed and the windows volume still has an effect even with waspi out.

**Edit**
Ok the power on surge is figured out. It does the same thing my Fiio E9 does. If you power the device off, you must wait 10 seconds before powering it back on in order for the bypass to work. If you power it off, say oops I didn't mean to do that, then power it back on, there is a very loud click even with the volume all the way down. Once the device is powered off several seconds then you power it back on it's dead silent. So I think it's working as intended, just not anticipating a user turning it off then right back on.

Foobar has a timer built in that you can use to track playtime. I have heard the Wyrd is an improvement to the Modi 2 as well, whether you believe that USB is susceptible to noise/voltage problems or whether you are in denial.

I'm a current owner of both the HD600 and the HD650 and I think there's something wrong with my HD650. While the differences between these two should be minimal, I'm finding it quite drastic. First of all, the HD650 is much quieter than the HD600, except for the treble region. This makes the HD650 sound much more treble forward and the HD600 is very warm and bassy in comparison. Anyone heard of anything like this? It's pretty upsetting.

Does sound like a cabling or phasing issue.

Indeed, the left headphone jack had been loose for a long time. After reading Eee Pee's post I looked up Tyll's video on the disassembly of the headphones. The driver fell right out. After snapping it back into place, things are much much better... thank you!!

The driver was loose? Wow - surprised that didn't rattle and buzz. Glad to hear it's good!

  Ok guys. I'm a believer.

Deep purple - Super Trooper on the HD650 through the Lyr 2 is the most amazing experience I've ever had with headphones.

LOL  Welcome to the family!  For me, it was Roger Waters "What God Wants Pt.1" through my ASGARD 2 that made me a die-hard HD-650 convert.

Bye-bye veil? Recessed mids you had said? Amazing how these chameleons scale eh? Glad you're getting the full 650 flavour :)

The HD650 does seem to light up once you get some serious power behind it. Tubes work better with higher impedance headphones as well.

Americans used to say - in relation to car engines - "there ain't no substitute for cubic inches".

Everybody happy?
