The only problem I have with the HD650 is when I put them on knowing I have a limited time to listen and I need to go get other things done, it's very difficult. A song will come on and I'll think "ok, one more..." then the next song comes on and I'm like "oh, man this sounds awesome on these headphones...I'll listen to this last song"
 
Then the next track comes on....and the next....

As far as I am concerned the HD 650 and Asgard are end game for me. I don't think givin how long it took me to save up to buy these I could get any better sound without spending a hell of alot more money.

Another thing I look forward to is new artists! Every time I've purchased a new headphone, I have come across a phenomena in which certain artists and to a small extent, genres(lookin at you dubstep) became more enjoyable. I wonder if this time around the HD650 will make me appreciate a few artists a lot more than I used to or find some new ones I'll fall in love with just because they'll sound good on them!
 
What artists or maybe even genres have you grown to love because of the HD650?

Savant is a great artist to check out for dubstep, particularly the album "ISM". Really into him right now...makes Skrillex look like an amateur with a casio keyboard (I've always thought Skrillex was WAAAYYY overrated, anyway...he's just marketable because he looks emo)
 
I've been listening to a lot more female vocalists lately too...Lana Del Rey sounds particularly amazing/smoky/sexy with the HD650.

Should I get an amp first and use it through uDAC2-HP (headphone out only), or toss the uDAC2-HP, get a new DAC (like the hifidiyme sabre) and then take my time with finding an amp?

Savant? Cool I'll check him out. I don't listen to much Skrill anymore after his last ep dropped or whatever. The production on it was kinda wack, especially the bass. I like the...well, how do I say, textures of his drops? They sound really cool to me but most of his songs just lack bass and impact. Like I used to love Kill Everybody but nowadays I just can't take the lack of bass. Scary Monsters still has some cool bass to it imo but that's mostly where it stops for bassy skrill songs. I like listening to Foreign Beggars and Camo & Krooked(although i guess they are technically drumstep/dnb) a lot as well as Flux Pavillion but after that, I just stick to cool remixes I find on UKF and such. Like it seems people always do awesome remixes of DJ Fresh songs imo.

Well, it's usually a love it or leave it experience with the o2. It just wasn't for me. It just didn't sound musical to my ears. I suppose I like a little warmer signature. The lyr with good tubes just rocks my world.

I saw your topic where you said you had a chance on a good deal on the hd600's. Just wondering what made you change your mind?

I guess the question would be if you'd be satisfied with the Udac. If not, buying a new amp gets you in the situation of double amping, which may not be advisable due to possible safety issues and double amping adding distortion. You'd have to find out how much of a problem that might be.

I know this is a long shot, but has anyone compared the O2 vs the Headroom Micro Amp (latest version only) with the HD-650?
I know Tyll has but I don't want to bother him.
 
I can't imagine the HD-650 getting better than it already is with the Micro Amp for under $400.
I actually prefer it to the E9 and Asgard by far.
 
I'm using it with the ODAC and was thinking the O2 would mostly be a side-grade or sound too similar or even thinner (like the E9).
I don't find the Micro Amp to add any warmth to my headphones. If so it's so small that it's barely detectable. It seems VERY revealing of what's connected to it.
 
I think the O2 might just be a side-step (or downgrade..shh don't tell NWa_vguy) and if I want to improve the 650 any further I should just get a hybrid tube amp like the Lyr.

Honestly, for $350 I grab up a used lyr and be done if it would work with your other hp's. There might be a better pairing as well as better amp, but I haven't heard it.

Ultimately the price difference being 100 btwn hd600 and hd650 208 vs 308 and you figure at least 20 off that since I would be getting the 650 cabling to eliminate any doubt. Then 80 difference for the look, 650 styling seems less unique but more long term. Then 220 vs 326 after tax for those refurb models might as well spend the extra 30 or so (after getting a 50 amazon gift card ill use, it's like I paid 360 today) for a great return policy good reputation I know and love and new. And I had 555s and would have not gotten 595 if it weren't for having them stolen and finding a good deal on 595. Sonically 600 vs 650 , 650 sounds better to have less listening fatigue and more smoothing of harsh sources/mastering. Plus I've heard it has more bass and a bit brighter. It seems like either way ill be happy with a 600 or 650 but the 650 deal seemed good enough to try it out.

Plus I want headphones I won't upgrade possibly ever. Can't see myself spending over 1k for hd800s even 650 was a bit pushing it on my stinginess factor

Especially considering I'm pretty sure ill get an amp sooner rather than later. Might keep the udac2 a while if I can otherwise I'm sure I could sell it and get a hifimediy sabre for cheap

^^ +1 one the stinginess factor. I get uncomfortable on any audio purchase over $400. Funny thing is, I bought three $400 hp's without batting an eyelash.
