Well, I'm also in the waiting game for my MS-1's. How do these headphones handle an amp? Do they sound alot better or just louder? I'd really like to keep the weight down (just Ipod and headphones), but I may be interested in getting an amp when plugging in to my computer at work (no soundcard). Will there be a big improvement? I'd still want something super lightweight and small, and doesn't cost to much. What product fits this description?

I have no idea how MS-1s sound with an amp as I have not tried my MS-1s with one as yet. The impression I'm under only from what I've read here; is that the MS-1s and other entry-level cans don't sound super-great to begin with, so that even a good amp won't improve the sound much.

Seems to work on a sliding scale. Better cans require better source and amplification to keep up! By the same token; a great amp needs great phones to sound it's best.

.....life can be so unfair.

Oh; and nice photo blog too!

So far I've only listened to mine through an amp, so I can't really say. Tonight I'll try mine straight out of my iPod to see if I can provide some insight.

But I can comment on the SQ through an amp: excellent! Whoever said they don't sound super-great was mistaken!

True, they're not RS-1's, but they most certainly are superb! Especially for the price.

The dynamics are astounding, the detail and clarity are excellent.

I'm not trying to do any super-critical listening until I give them a chance to break in. But so far I am very pleased.

Hey! I'm the one who said that MS-1s don't sound super-great!

After all; how can I justify getting MS2i if the MS-1s are super-great!!? That would make the MS2i super-super great and how could I EVER justify the MS-Pro!!??

Seriously; the MS-1s are excellent phones and I am extreemly attached to mine! I like the sound so much that MS2i are certainly in my future.

The MS1 is the best sounding unamped can that I have besides the A900LTD.
It is superb directly out of any portable in my opinion. Even better than the HF-1 unamped imho.
It is my favorite portable can when it's just about sq!

I didn't have to pay a thing when they came to my door and I know some other people didn't either. If you do have to pay those fees, I think it's $6 for brokerage fee, and then 14% tax (GST + PST).

The MS-1 is a good choice, btw.

I think USPS is one of the safest way to avoid brokerage fees and tax.
So you should be all right, and for 112CAD they are tha bomb my friend.
I have now the K81DJ - MS1 duet and i can't be a happier man.
Long live good deals like these!!!

BTW they sound as good amped or unamped with my PA2V2
But maybe with another amp they shine for real, i can't tell

Well its good to hear that they do so well unamped. I think I'll give it a go without one before I look into buying an amp. How can you test whether they will do better amped without buying an amp first? Would my surround sound system at home provide good enough quality and power to drive the headphones to their max potential?

I sure hope they ship before the 21st.

Thanks

Alessandro sells them direct. So you either buy from them or used.
