enough of sennheiser

*nods to gstein* Come ON, you can't get away with actual saying "The first few weeks i found the HD555 sound impressive. But, thanks to this forum and a little research, i now find hd555 rather boring when playing music." That's ridiculous!!!

That aside, I'd suggest some Beyers for you if you want a less 'boring' version of the Senns. Although the 555's are pretty upfront.

I can understand if you found the Senns boring after comparing them Grados, but I don't understand how you can find them boring after reading about Grados.

You may very well end up liking Grados more, but you have to be care and make sure you're making decisions because of the way you feel. All too often people are satisfied with something until they read a less than favorable review, and all of a sudden they need a replacement.

This forum should not take precedence over your own hearing in forming an opinion about a headphone. If you're so influenced by other people's opinions, I feel sorry for you, because you'll just be shifting from one FOTM to another.

Well, sometimes you don't know something unless someone tells you about it. Poor people that live under constant oppression may not know good lives without being told that there are people outside their area that are living good lives. The OP said he thought they were really good, then when he found out that Senns were known to be boring, he took a more analytical view and determined that indeed, they were boring.

The forum is helpful for newbies as it allows them to shape their "next step", so they can take it. Then once they've taken enough "next steps" to know what they want, they'll be able to better analyze the info that is being presented to them.

That's not really the best of analogies...there is a very clear cut line between the life of someone who's poor and living under constant oppression and those living good lives (at least the way you described it).
Wibowo suddenly dislikes the flavor of his headphones after enjoying it, because of something akin to peer pressure (it seems). So it's more like him eating some delicious (to him) steak and being impressed, then, after hearing some other people at his table say that it was overcooked, decides that it is indeed overcooked and not to his liking. Or something. Sorry for the food analogy, i'm really hungry

C'mon, let's give the guy a break. There's good and bad qualities about every headphone. Sometimes we all tend to dwell on the negatives after hearing about them and I'm sure that's what has happened here. Just human nature. It'd be nice if there was always a clear winner in all things that we could all agree on but one man's pleasure is another man's poison. I'm as susceptible as anyone else and sometimes end up making bad decisions because of it.

BTW, I think ATH-W1K may be between Grado RS-1 & HD595 (slightly more towards to the Grado).

And on top of that some people go for Alessandro (modified Grados?) headphones which seem to roll off the Grado treble. So if you don't mind supra-aural headphones try Alessandro MS PRO, MS2i, MS1.

The AKG K601 is worth checking out too.

Also check out the Beyer DT880 32, 80, 250 ohms:

I have Grado/alessandro MS-2i and Sennheiser 650. In the end I just listen to what ever one I pick up. Both are good in there own way.

For what it is worth I think the 555 sounds a lot like the 650. The 650s are much more refind though.

I upgraded from the HD555, and I agree, they were kind of boring. For an upgrade, a good HD650 or MS2i would be a good bet. It depends on your amplification (I can make cans sound to my liking, which is a definate benefit of DIYing). Try to find some good synergy if you're not into that sort of thing though. I'll suggest a Grado because they do have amazing energy (at least Alessandro does) and it's definately fun.
