I hope you will like what you see. So far we have only the black anodized Hornets, & believe me I am happy to get something out of this chassis manufacturer. There is though a reason why I stuck with him all this time, because he does what I want with atmost care & his work is state of the art, but on the expence of promises that never are met & time that is never delivered.
Now the bad news, all the 500 custom manufactured knobs came with out the indicator. I had to send them over night delivery so he will install the cut that indicate where your volume knob is. Hopefully I should recieve them in the middle of the week.
I am hoping that the first 100 Hornets will ship at the end of this week. Please make sure to get in touch with me regarding the payment.
I do take pay-pal, you would pay the 3% pay-pal fee. You can use my e-mail address: rsaudio@raysamuelsaudio.com to transfer the money.
I will take all cashier checks & post office money orders if you want to save the pay-pal fee. I will also take your personal check & ship the Hornet amp after it clears. I have no means of taking credit cards.
I will post tonight the price of the batteries that I got good a deal on that would save you $1.00-$1.50 on the batteries that work very well with the Hornet, this way you don't have to order it & pay shipping, the battery will ship with the amp at the same time.
As to the shipping, All headfiers in the USA, no Hawaii/Alaska or Puerto Rico, will pay 10.00 shipping, which will include the insurance, tracking # & signature required, priority mail.
Please if you are sending your payment, do not ask for confirmation, as I do not have the time to answer all these e-mails, I might just respond, got it, thanks.
Thanks for your patience & understanding.
Cheers.

The good news is that my Hornet just showed up
biggrin.gif

Bad news is that I had Ray ship it to my work address and all my audio gear is at home...

So now this little wonder is just sitting there on my desk like a puppy that wants to be taken out for a run...

(BTW: when the unit is charging, is there supposed to be no indication with the power switch in the "off" position? How do I know it's actually being charged and when would I know that the charging is complete?)

Picked up my Hornet today. This bad boy is half the size of my Micro DAC....

I'm not sure this has been discussed, but I noticed some Hornets have the volume indicator "cut" on the base of the knob all the way to the knob itself. Like this:

But that other Hornets only have the "cut" on the base of the knob, but not all the way to the knob. Like this:

Am I just being fooled by the pics or do they vary from amp to amp? I'm not complaining by the way, it's no big deal. Something I just noticed and wanted to see if the people who received their amps noticed it.

Interesting, only Ray can elaborate on that. Mine is in the base as well like shown in drp's pics of his hornet. Personally I like the way it makes the knob perfectly round and easier to grip. I'd assume it has something to do with the situation Ray had with the knob suppliers where they came back uncut and were sent out again (reason for 2-3 delay of Hornets shipping out). The quickest thing for them to do was to just cut the base. Notice how Recstar's Hornet was one of the first, I'd assume from this that Ray already had some available made like that. The later ones came with the 2nd pack of fast cut knobs.

That's a puzzler, Mark... yeah mine is only on the base/skirt itself.

meh, I never look at the indicator anyway. I just turn the knob clockwise until it's loud enough.

My knob is only marked to about 2/3 the length of the knob. From an angle you can't really see it, but it's there. It does look like some knobs got cut deeper than others. Here's how mine looks:

That f12 connector may look familiar, Borat

The Tysomics cost $7.97 (9.2V 250 mAh) each and the Accupowers $6.80 each (9.2V 270 mAh). You'd needto also factor in the PayPal fee if you're using Paypal. And also realize that the $10.00 shipping isn't applicable for international orders as well.

Thanks for the confirmations you all. In my head I was like, "Doesn't anybody notice this? I feel like I'm on crazy pills!" LOL.

I was actually kind of bummed that the SR-71 volume knob wasn't going to be used for the Hornet because of fit issues I guess. But I love that brushed aluminum knob on the SR-71.

I'm glad you're putting that custom breakout with the mini plug to good use darkisz.

Ray said that you would be able to fit the biggest 1/8" mini plugs into the little Hornet without disrupting the headphone jack and he was right. You don't get much bigger than the Canare F-12.

Nice! When I was at the So cal meet, i specifically inspected the jack to make sure there was enough room, Ive also noticed that there is enough surface area cut away to fit large barrel connectors. Very nice design for the jack inputs. Kudos to Ray. Its an all too common occurance that some amp builders do not take into consideration connector compatibilty, Ive had issues with spacing problems on amps before, generally be the amp builder is unfamiliar with the various mini connectors avaialble and improperly space the jacks.

I have had this issue with my timester amp and another portable amp I came across at the so cal meet which will remain nameless. For this reason I cant use Cardas 1/4" connectors on my timester or Switchcraft connectors on the portable amp in question. Also toggle switch lengths are also a nice consideration, the same amp I had problems with also would constantly switch itself off as RA connectors would hit the switch and power it off constantly

I didnt test the Canares on the hornet at the meet, but it looks as if it fits those too, if your amp can fit the canares, thats really cool, Canare mini connectors are huge and rival the sizes of the largest RCA connectors LOL, for this reason I never use those connectors.

Does the HORNET fit inside an ALTOIDS TIN box? A credit card fits perfectly inside the altoids tin box, and the hornet is smaller than a credit card.

In two weeks I am hoping to declair the time to take the orders for the Hornet. The Hornet will be selling less than the SR-71, it will be $350.00 dollars.

I wonder if Ray is going to update the SR-71, with the features developed for the Hornet.

How does the Hornet compare to the SuperMacro, AE-1, and/or Portaphile?

Thanks!
