The V6 will give you elaphantine bass along with zippy upper midrange, a healthy dose of treble grit, and a non-existent soundstage. Accurate it ain't.
Ok, made it to the audio store. The AKG's are not for me, that is for sure. HUGE, heavy, tight on your head and not the sound I like, not mellow, not harsh, not anything, just sound. Oh well.
I did listen to some Sennheiser HD600's... tempting. Felt great, sounded great, looked great. Price... not so great.
BTW, the HD 280's had better bass than the AKG's! I think maybe the 47-TX did not have enough power for them, but the 300ohm HD600's had ample sound, so that must have not been the case. Just not dynamic, exciting headphones I guess. Boy am I glad I took my own advice and gave them a listen.
BTW, a young married couple went into the store and the sales man was pushing a BOSE $3999 system. Boy were they glad to see me! Saved them from a huge mistake.
i really need to listen to the V6's before I buy... And the Grado SR-80's... I would hate to buy them and have the same AKG situation but then I would be out money. Maybe I can make it up to Brooklyn and go to the Grado american headquarters...
I emailed that place you said had the CD1700's and they do have them for £79.95 which is about $120 I think which is more than what you said. You do have to call them if you want to order which could cost a lot depending on if they put you on hold. I'm still trying to find out how much shipping would be and if there are any taxes or anything.
Justin,
Some AKG models have an impedance of 600 ohms. Maybe, their setup did not bright out the best in them. Of course, get a hold of the SR-80. If you o.k. with their design, you will love the SR-80. I remember that stereophile ranks them at the top or near the top of class C headphones. Good luck on your findings.
these were 300ohms and in a special setup that had more then enough power. the huge ear peices were a pain to me. i do like the look of them, besides that, and if they had better bass, i would like them all the more.
the 580 and 600's from Sennheiser was just so good to me that I could not warranty purchasing the 240S.
