Skippy,
I am pretty sure that the D-555 (top 1990) will probably get a good review back in those days. According to Duncan, it's little brother, D-303 (top 1991) got a very good recommendation from the folks at Hi-Fi mac in England. I wish...I have a chance of trying the rat shack 3400 as well.

Wow! That's thing looks great! These D-555 are going way up there (price), and to think I sold my 2 weeks ago for $90. Are they really worth that much? If this thing goes to $200, and it looks like it will, it would cost about the same as a full size CD player with balanced outputs (auction that ened a day ago on a NEC player)! And I know when compared A/B, the D-555 is just going to get killed. Besides, it will be sitting at home, since almost no one have a battery that works, just like any other full size player. At least the D-777 and D-E900 or even my D-303 actually take AA batteries and can be carried around. Oh well, I still enjoyed my while I had it, and for around $100, its still worth it.

Neo (a friend from headwize) send me this website of D-555 and other very highend stuffs. Anyone, can translate this. Click on D-555 and you will see the board, remote censor, and wired remote.

And WOW....I couldn't believe that the D-555 (ebay) will end up around 380 dollars. Maybe I should consider selling my D-555 and grab the Senn HD-600. Wow!!!

here's the website:

One thing maybe of interest that I spotted today is a Shure PCDP in current production (although I couldn't see it on their website) that retails at just under $300

I wonder what it sounds like...................

Guys,
I just recieved Sony D-515 (grossy finished-1992 top model) yesterday. Very impressive so far. It is the first player to feature 3 sec ESP. Sound quality is excellent and very similar to my D-303. It has 1 bit Dac, Bassboost (1-3), and DSS (borrow from D-555). The lineout is very impressive when it pairs up with my Senn 580. I really like this. Very similar size and weight to the D-303. The bassboost is very nice...the clarity is great. Oh...it has LCD remote as well....a very nice touch.

Hey do any of these old players have line outs that are effected by the bass boost? Thats something I would be interested in.

According to Purk, the d-515 has a line out like that. From what I can recall, the D-555 is another, but someone should confirms this since I no longer have the unit.
