while i am loving my sr225 for slipknot and tool , it is not suitable for michael jackson. The grado is too bright for MJ music i feel. Any phones can bring MJ to life and has a cord long enough for me to do the moonwalk while listening? it will be great complement. i think the hd580 will do the trick.

The akg 501s do micheal jackson justice. The clarity and detailed highs make him sound wonderful. They do need a hefty amp though.

i find the MJ music really needs a dark and smooth sounding headphone. As MJ music is already bright by itself

Billie Jean and Don't Stop 'Til you Get Enough sound really good through my Senn HD650/Zu. With my Grado SR-60, the midrange is way too prominent.

No one believes me when I tell them that MJ is completely reference. I'm telling you, it brought things out of the Qualia and the K1000 I've never heard before. One audiophile mag named "Billie Jean" as their #1 reference track for high frequency response. The remastered "HIStory Vol. 1" is clean as a whistle. Even my SR200 doesn't do MJ justice I believe - that's just one damn good recording. Kudos, Quincy Jones!

Wow, I agree! While, not as traveled as some of the more esteemed head-fiers, the first album I use to test new stuff is Number Ones by MJ.

Billy Jean is my fav track for highs and lows.

This is interesting about "Billy Jean" being a reference track! I picked up the 3-disc Michael Jackson box set that came out recently. It's only $29.99 at Best Buy. I passed on it 2 or 3 times, and then finally bit. The recording quality is not bad at all, but I've not yet listened to it on headphones. The "Thriller" SACD is also excellent.

i give a try to listen MJ with sr225 again. sr225 brings out the excitement of MJ but tone wise , too bright, smooth criminal don't sound quite smooth

Bruce Swedien is the man behind the console on nearly all Quincy Jones' recordings. He is THE man... there are not many of these recording-genius like Tommy LiPuma, Trevor Horn etc...

Dude, quincy jones is one of the best producers and sound engineers ever, and its well known that MJ is a huge audiophile, he's practically obsessive compulsive when it comes down to production, he also has a couple of high end setups and he's got tons of tube gear as well. Listen to off the wall, that cd is amazing in terms of quality, i use it as my reference for imaging, the imaging is out of this world and the guitars and synthesized noises are so perfectly placed its crazy on the rs-1's.

Wow, that's cool. I did not know that.

I burn in my headphones with Michael Jackson's Number Ones...I just felt it was a good burn-in album for highs and lows...

Think before you slander "talent"
