I just did. This ****ing sucks, but in a very cool original experimental sweet kind of way.
I...I think I might like it...or...or do I hate it because it's noise?

That sounds about right. Now look up the "Dry Lungs" compilations. V is my favourite.

PS I like to throw the odd Controlled Bleeding track, "Swallowing Scrap Metal" on at hi-fi stores just to scare the help.

And you get Andrew WK. I'll take the swap.

Not quite sure what you're suggesting here..that these choices are influenced by Rolling Stone, or that you'd rather listen to Brit bands than American? My point was that Andrew WK, White Stripes, The Strokes, Flaming Lips, Mercury Rev etc. are all good American artists/bands that don't get much recognition domestically, even though they're some of your country's best and brightest.

By the way, if you're interested in some of the more interesting bands across the pond, you might want to move beyond your somewhat obvious choices to Elbow, Muse, Goldfrapp, Embrace, Badly Drawn Boy, The Charlatans, Mogwai, Electric Soft Parade, British Sea Power..and their ilk

See, you DO get it. It's funny. It's supposed to be funny. Yup, it's agressively complete and utter ****. It's impossibly moronic. But that's the whole charm. As Spinal Tap says, "It's such a thin line between clever and stupid, really"

Um, but is KR laughing with Andrew WK, or at Andrew WK. I mean, I do realize that both are acceptable approaches to comedy, but are either of these facets of shtick apropos for a musician? Not really arguing with you, I don't hate him as aggressively as someone who watches too much TV (I don't watch any), but that's like saying "Plan 9" is a great movie because it's so bad. Yes? No? Or are you not saying that Andrew WK is great, just that he will "make it".

See, the thing is, Andrew WK is intentionally trashy/moronic/whatever. He wants you to laugh at him, he wants his music to seem stupid. Like I said earlier, the only thing I know to compare it to is T. Rex. Obviously this guy isn't in Marc Bolan's league, and I certainly won't be purchasing their cd anytime soon, but just my $0.02. The first time I heard it, I was listening to other music on the headphones and had the tv muted (Belle and Sebastian if I remember correctly, Jude). I, too, thought it was utterly ridiculous that anyone would purchase that stuff. After hearing it with the volume up, however, they sounded strangely like KISS, and after reading a tiny bit about them I now 'get' them, or at least understand that they don't take themselves seriously at all, unlike, say Creed.

Since I was asked to voice an opinion. I'd like to say that andrew sucks.

I also want to point out to wasifazim that if he thinks those artists are some of this countries best or brightest he needs to experience a wider variety of music.

And damnit the beastie boys RULE.

As you just said, this thread is soliciting opinions; that was mine..also note that I qualified my statement by using the word "some"..

I agree fully. I am tired of all this awful talentless rubbish. Where are the new Led Zeppelin's? New Beatles? New Floyd? Is there no talent out there at all?

And I don't buy this thing about it being "intentionally" bad. If it is intentionally bad, then people would just laugh and save their money.

I have to confess that I don't actually own I Get Wet. I have Party Hard and Party til You Puke on two of the compilation discs I've gotten with some of the English music magazines.

Every time I get to those tracks, I can't help but smile. I'll buy it when it's in the cut-out bin but I wouldn't spend $15 bucks on it.

He's a lot more entertaining to me than Kid Rock. If we must have someone "like that" inflicted on us, why not Andrew WK? He's both *dumb* AND *enteraining*. For what he is and what he does, I think he's a hoot.

His songs will be played on the soundtracks to countless teen movies and anthologized on endless "Remeber the '00's" compilations that aiotron will be buying in his 40's. His songs will be put into future movies as signifiers to remind the 40-year old aiotron of when he was a wee lad and getting into trouble.
