Joseph Grado speaker output to headphone adapter

I think I would double the values of those resistors. 22 ohms load seems unnecessary. Going higher with the values is not going to affect the sound of the phones much as it just presents them with a bit higher source impedance.

Actually, I might just stick with the 2 ohm resistor and use that in combination with a 48Ohm. That would allow the power amp to do more voltage swing and would reduce noise and distortion.

Might actually sound really good! Current capability is certainly no issue here!

Hey Hirsch,

Can you re-post that diagram?

Wonder which would sound better, this or transformer-based attenuators like the ASL UHC-Signature?

Also, how do we calculate the effective output impedance?

Does this layout really give a better damping factor than a simple resistor in series? I winder if back-EMF from the headphones would easily flow in a loop around the 2ohm in parallel?

I second the repost request! Google search came up with nothing and I have an extra amp sitting idle.

Update: For some reason the first time I hit your site the image wasn't there, but I have it now. Thanks very much.

Ahh pity.

Thank god the ME24 has good current capabilities.

Verrry Sorrrry to wake up the dead thread ... anybody here has the diagram or an working link ? The one above seems dead for good.

I think this is the same pic:

one thing not shown in that pic is a means to turn off the speakers when listening to headphones.A simple DPDT toggle switch will do it (unless you want both on at the same time then individual switches for the speaker and the headphone will be the way to go,2XDPST)

No it is an impedance matching transformer with a speaker/headphone selection switch.
Check the Head-Fi main page for my review of one of the prototypes.I actually own that very unit and love it.

of course me being me i had to modify it

Barrier strips in place of the dreaded spring clips and a more beefy toggle switch.Otherwise it is stock operationally.
