New Head-Fier
Pros: - Excellent open soundstage, good bass response, lightweight
Cons: - Uncomfortable headband, amp is a must IMO
I want to start this review by saying that I am no audiophile. I do, however, recognize excellent sound when I hear it. I bought these headphones at a whim, and I wasn't expecting anything amazing. I first tried these directly out of my phone (a basic android, HTC wildfire S albiet with a souped up audio codec) and these were a bit disappointing. Not a lot of clarity and not much bass. However, when I plugged them in to an amp, the change in sound quality was unbelievable. The sound opened up and everything was much clearer. Keeping in mind I do not know a lot about high end equipment, I compared them to my ATH-M50s, and even though these are not on the same level quality wise, amping the HT360s made them a solid competitor to the M50s. I listen to rap/hip-hop/electronica, and everything sounded amazing. Specifically what caught my attention was the bass on some of Stimming's tracks, which came through with amazing clarity. The bass didn't leak into the mids/highs either but was punchy and the sub-bass was also very good. I don't know about rock/folk vocals since I don't listen to that, but rap lyrics sounded very clear.
Now the real reason why I use these: they are amazing for gaming. When amped, the soundstage is excellent, and I can position objects in the game with pinpoint accuracy. I have tried a few other headphones, such as the Shure SR-750s and ATH-M50s with the same setup but I prefer the positioning of these headphones better. However, this is just my opinion and it may sound different to other folks. The other simple reason is that these are extremely light and airy, and doesn't hurt the ears. The headband has no padding and might hurt the head after a few hours, but with some cloth and some tape they become very comfortable indeed. I am very happy with these headphones and would recommend them to any gamer.
