A few minor problems with my Millet Minimax
Quote: The amp had not always done that; that's why I was concerned. It seems to not have any adverse effects, so I suppose it's fine. He's in the process of taking care of that for me Very interesting devices indeed... Thanks!- nate911

A few minor problems with my Millet Minimax
Thanks for the reply. 1. Yea, that's what I thought. I'll need to order another one then. 2. The pins look fine and its making good contact. It is a Beezar tube; I'll PM you with the details. 3. The static is still present even if the volume is turned all the way down on the...- nate911

A few minor problems with my Millet Minimax
I've had my Minimax built for more than a year, and it's been working great for the most part. A few recent problems that I'd like to look into though. 1. One of my tube lights does not come on very often; sometimes it comes on only after the amp has been on for a while. Very...- nate911

Meelectronics CC51 Review & Audition thread
Hope you enjoy the CC51 Aflac. I wish I had others pairs currently to compare the earphones to. I’d like to thank |joker| for setting up this loaner program--I’ve really enjoyed my time with the CC51. While I've never written a review, here's some of my impressions. First of all...- nate911

New Millett Hybrid MiniMAX (what happened to this thread?)
Sorry if I'm reviving an older thread, but I just finished my Minimax (connected to a grubDAC)--sounds amazing! I had some problems drilling out the tube sockets but tomb helped me out (I ordered his kit). I had a fun time building this amp; thanks for a great kit and amp. Here are some...- nate911

Step up from a Mini³?
You could try the Millet MOSFET-MAX--that seems to work well with low impedance loads like Grados.- nate911

Which DIY Amp for HD650/DT880?
Coupe: Thanks for the info, and Tom does seem like a really great guy. nikongod: I'm not extremely worried about budget...I'm just looking to keep it in the ballpark of a few hundred, like I said in my original post. As long as they do well with high impedance 'phones (which they seem to)...- nate911

Which DIY Amp for HD650/DT880?
Yea, that's one reason I'm considering the PPAv2/M3 is because they fit into Hammond enclosures. And that's nice...haha- nate911

Which DIY Amp for HD650/DT880?
Quote: Quote: Thanks for the responses. And the PPAv2 looks nice as well. Like I said, I'm just worried about casework mainly...which doesn't look that bad with either (PPAv2 or M3). Of course, it's still more complicated compared to the Minimax, but as long as I can use a...- nate911

Which DIY Amp for HD650/DT880?
I coulda sworn he had a product page on his website for it...guess not. I did glance at the original product page though...looks pretty nice. I'm still drawn to the Minimax because of the super-easy casework...but do some of these amps (that I mentioned in the OP and that were suggested) drive...- nate911

Which DIY Amp for HD650/DT880?
Quote: Yea, that's what I was thinking. Super easy to case up and there's a kit at GlassJar if I decide to go that route. I'm assuming your friend had the DT880/600? Quote: The M^3 looks nice but I'm worried about the casework... :/ Wasn't the Dynalo on AMBs site? I can't...- nate911

Which DIY Amp for HD650/DT880?
I'm trying to decide whether to purchase the DT880/600 or HD650...and I want to just buy both and compare them--return the one I don't want. Only problem is I'd like to have a good amp (all I have is a mini^3 now) to A/B them so I get an accurate comparison. What's a good amp to build for either...- nate911

Upgrade headphones for $200-300?
Yeah, I have a mini^3 not an M^3. Concerning voltage swing, the mini^3 indeed has 11Vp-p. The M^3 has only a little more at 13Vp-p (with a 27V PSU)...so I can see what you're saying about voltage swing not being the major factor when choosing amps. The M^3 does supply twice the current (I...- nate911

Upgrade headphones for $200-300?

Upgrade headphones for $200-300?
Quote: Thanks for the info. Looks like I'll make a thread in the DIY forum soon for an amp to use. Quote: Quote: Hmm alright. I'm just not sure if I'll hear the Senn "veil" without proper amplification. But if the sound sig are good enough to compare (it seems like...- nate911

Upgrade headphones for $200-300?
That seems like a good idea; I may just do that. Only problem is since the HD650 and the DT880/600 (though not as much I believe) are sensitive to amplification/harder to drive, I'm not sure if trying them now (with a mini^3) will give me an accurate comparison of their true sound signatures. I...- nate911

Upgrade headphones for $200-300?
Any more opinions on the DT880 and HD650 (and possibly HD600)? I see a lot of praise for both 'phones...I may end up getting the HD650, and if it's too laid-back for me, I can always sell. It's a little out of my price range...but it still may work. Although the DT880 looks tempting as well...- nate911
