LFF's Enigma (new from the maker of the Paradox)

Personally I'll probably never part with mine, though some do every now and then so check the classified section occasionally. I just did that, and there's actually an offer from a couple of months ago that may not be sold yet, in the UK though, which may be the reason they're not sold.

ZMF Ori (Omni) - Upcoming Semi Open Flagship

I don't get the sound demos either, imho there's not a remote chance that such a demo will come close to actually representing what a good pair of HPs can do, especially when hooked up quality system. Gives one an idea yes, a hint rather, but that's where it ends for me.

Yes, you can swap pads between them, any pads that fit one will fit the other, suede or not.

    L.K.S. Audio MH-DA004 Dual ES9038PRO DAC - Van Damme's double impact?

Video cards and other components clearly influence the purity of digital stream coming out of a board, I'm not convinced as to the impact of CPU cores and speed capacity though - do have any links to share which support the stated one way or another?

MrSpeakers Alpha PRIME: Impressions and Discussion Thread

I have both, and listen mostly to jazz, prog rock and metal, and for those genres to my ears Primes and Oris are very similar. Personally, my preference are the Primes for what I perceive to be a just tad more resolution across the board, and especially in the upper range. And their soundstage...

Enjoy targetrein, and yes make sure to give them the recommended burn time, they'll reward you with bliss. The Primes have always punched above their weight class, and still rock hard!

LFF's Enigma (new from the maker of the Paradox)

Isolation's pretty good, just about as good as any other closed-end cans I've heard - enclosures are made from solid wood after all. Earpads would make some difference in allowing external sounds to leak (or not), I suppose, I don't hear anything coming thru though, using ZMF's protein pads...

LFF's Enigma (new from the maker of the Paradox)

I have ZMF"s Omni (currently named Ori) as well as the Enigma - haven't heard the Backwoods, but based on my feelings about the previous two I'd strongly recommend getting the Enigmas, if one can afford it. Very strongly. The main difference is in the soundstage where the latter are superior...

Fostex HP-A4BL (the A4 with balanced output)

I have put a pre-order with B&H here in the US, at $399 - don't know what it costs in EU, but getting DSD DAC with balanced amp from Fostex at this price, in a good-looking package at this price is a no-brainer. Not to mention the potential ability to swap opamps, so yes just get it and report back.

Fostex HP-A4BL (the A4 with balanced output)

I'm not aware of it being sold outside of Japan, some people had it shipped from there but I doubt many enough to have meaningful impressions, let alone experience with planars. I'm eager to hear some feedback too, and will indeed buy it once available in the states.

ZMF Ori (Omni) - Upcoming Semi Open Flagship

The Enigmas are not with t50rp drivers, but we can discuss this on the Enigma's thread.

ZMF Ori (Omni) - Upcoming Semi Open Flagship

This is the Omni's appreciation thread and I own a pair and value their quality and looks (plus Zack is fabulous to deal with :) so I rather not promote other brands, to my ears though the Enigmas have no match under $2K and I've done the prerequisite A-B comparisons before stating it.

MrSpeakers Alpha PRIME: Impressions and Discussion Thread

Welcome on board thekorsen! Now start planning for dac/amp upgrade that will really make them shine. On the X00 subject, I ordered a pair only based on reviews and while waiting those 4 months for them to make it home, I was able to listen to and compare them to my Primes - the result? I sold...

ZMF Ori (Omni) - Upcoming Semi Open Flagship

HE1K is in another league altogether, and in order to make shine you'll need 1) very resolving setup and 2) an awesome cable, and that = lots of dough.

ZMF Ori (Omni) - Upcoming Semi Open Flagship

Hi Jonathan, imho LCD 3 tops your list but they are open ended and twice more expensive than the Omnis which come next. Over the years I gradually moved to closed end HPs, finding their sound to be more cohesive and accurate. The one area however they give ground to the top open cans is...

MrSpeakers Alpha PRIME: Impressions and Discussion Thread

APs are not mid-fi, they are hi-fi and stand above all HPs you mentioned. As for replacing your X00 with AP, you'll be stunned how much better APs are, though that will also be depending on what you will amplify them with, they need a bit of power and preferably more resolving system to fully...

LFF's Enigma (new from the maker of the Paradox)

Oh yes, the vegan pads, we talked about it on the previous pages but let's stress again the big difference with them (thx again for the tip Jozurr) - there were few guys at the NY meet that had heard the Enigmas before and all were surprised how much better they sounded than what they recall...

LFF's Enigma (new from the maker of the Paradox)

I'd like to listen to the Slants and hopefully the opportunity will present itself one of those days, especially put them thru the test alongside the Enigmas. Until then though, my understanding is that the Slants (as well as Paradox) somewhat lack the Enigma's prowess in the low frequency and...

LFF's Enigma (new from the maker of the Paradox)

I had a chance to do compare my Enigmas to the Ether C, on the same amp switching from one to the other by unplugging and plugging them a number of times (my thanks to Dan for graciously allowing me). It wasn't exactly apples to apples comparison as the Ethers had far superior cable, by far...

I second that Ether Es are something to watch for, and Dan also offered that MrSpeakers is working on Stats amp of equal quality, eagerly waiting...:raising_hand: and praying it will be an affordable alternative to today's rulers in the field

I'll bring my HiFi-M8, and I'm certain others will do so too. It is really good, one of only few mobile options if you want to drive planars in balanced mode.
