The Beyerdynamic DT250 Thread
The DT250 don't sound quite like the other Beyerdynamics; The DT880 and DT990 have more intense treble peaks. The DT250 has a similar peak, but it isn't as spiky. Also, as far as the bass imbalance goes, Putting some dense foam between the plug and the left driver housing (basically, poke...- Mjolnir125

The Beyerdynamic DT250 Thread
I really disagree with you here... The treble on the HD600 is better across the board than the DT250 for me; it isn't even close. As with most Beyerdynamic headphones, the treble on the DT250 is kind of peaky and the midrange is a lot lower than the treble level when compared to the HD600. The...- Mjolnir125

The Beyerdynamic DT250 Thread
The HD600 are better overall IMO, but the treble is more forward than with the DT250's so it can bring out annoying things in the recordings. The DT250's have a definite treble peak somewhere around 9-10khz that is noticeable, while the HD600 have pretty flat treble.- Mjolnir125

The Beyerdynamic DT250 Thread
The HD600 don't really sound the same as the DT250; I don't know why people say they are like a closed HD600. Both are pretty neutral, but the DT250 has more bass and the treble is a bit lower in volume, as well as peakier and with different emphasis than the HD600. The HD600 sounds better with...- Mjolnir125

The Beyerdynamic DT250 Thread
Sorry I didn't see this until now. Basically, the HD600 have more bass rolloff than the DT250 because they are open. The HD600 also has a different treble signature than the DT250, which has a lower treble level overall compared to the rest of the frequency spectrum. They really don't sound...- Mjolnir125

To me the DT250 has pretty strong sub bass, but I guess it depends what you are comparing it to. Also, different batches of these headphones sound incredibly different; the first pair I got had much different treble and sounded a bit more V shaped overall.- Mjolnir125

Sennheisers and closed back headphones
I didn't expect anything from them; they were my first non cheap headphones a long time ago. To be fair I haven't owned anything in that price range since, but there are probably better options for not a lot more. I don't really care so much about absolute flatness in headphones as I care...- Mjolnir125

Sennheisers and closed back headphones
Nope, my headphones are HD600's, K702's, and DT250's, all of which are intended to be "flat" and "neutral," which is what I look for in a headphone (they all do this to varying degrees as nothing is really flat). For some reason, people describe the M50's, HD280's, and SRH 840's as "flat" or...- Mjolnir125

Sennheisers and closed back headphones
I had a pair of HD280's for a number of years and I was pretty disappointed with their sound. Closed headphones in general tend to have a lot of issues with sound, regardless of brand. You either get something with weird treble, or you get boomy midbass.- Mjolnir125

K702 with K712 memory foam pads
I gave up on this after getting HD600's which have a warmer sound anyway, so I am keeping the AKG's stock to maximize soundstage as I mostly use them for gaming now.- Mjolnir125

The Beyerdynamic DT250 Thread
The 80 ohm allegedly sounds a bit different than the 250 ohm; many people say the 250 ohm has better bass extension than the 80 ohm. It definitely has better bass extension than any of my open headphones. Anyway, I got my replacement pair of DT250's and they have a noticeably...- Mjolnir125

The Beyerdynamic DT250 Thread
Are you talking about the 80 or 250 ohm? My impressions of the 250 ohms are 100% the opposite of yours... I find them to have emphasized treble and very good bass extension. I am comparing them to open backed neutral headphones like the hd600 though, so if you only have something like the m50 as...- Mjolnir125

I would say they are somewhat U shaped when compared with the HD600 which tend to be mid centric. However, while the treble seems a bit accentuated, but the bass is just about at the right level while a really U shaped headphone would have too much bass.- Mjolnir125

I just got a pair of HM5 velour pads, and they actually work quite well with the DT250's. The HM5 pleather pads make the bass way too boomy, but the velour ones preserve the good flat bass and extension of the normal DT250 250 ohm. They still have a bit of weird treble though, at least coming...- Mjolnir125

Yeah I got them from Amazon so returning them should be no problem. I am not yet sure if I will replace them or just get a straight up refund and try something else... Well, it seems the pair I got have mismatched drivers... The left side has noticeably more low bass than the right. Also, after listening more these sound NOTHING like HD600's. I like to give it a week or so before coming to any conclusions about headphones so I can get used to them. They definitely don't sound exactly like HD600's at all and have emphasis in different regions. I don't own HD800's but I have listened to them a fair amount and it is hard to compare them...- Mjolnir125

I just got a pair of DT250 250Ω, and in no universe would I describe them as bass light; they have a good amount of bass without being excessive. They have noticeably more extension than my HD600's (powering everything with an O2 amp).- Mjolnir125

Wow! Sennheiser HD 540 Reference are so good.
I disagree with this... My HD600's have very realistic tone, and it is similar (at least in the treble) to the HD540 II. The HD800 on the other hand doesn't really have as realistic treble in my opinion; at least certain aspects of it are not as prominent like with the HD600 and the abrupt...- Mjolnir125

O2 AMP + ODAC
Yup, the high gain setting is not for low sensitivity headphones, but rather for quiet sources using the line in. Using the high gain with the ODAC will clip if your source is also set to maximum volume and you are listening to a song that is close to the max level. Given that I only need to be...- Mjolnir125

O2 AMP + ODAC
My O2/ODAC has no issues driving my K702 with any song I have (even very quiet high DR tracks). I have the Mayflower O2 amp which I believe has 2.5x gain for the low setting and 6.5x or so gain for the high setting. On high gain with max PC volume (using the ODAC) there is a lot of clipping...- Mjolnir125

Wow! Sennheiser HD 540 Reference are so good.
The 037974 is specified as the official sennheiser part number for the HD 540 II cable, but I don't know if it is the same as the original cable, or just one that works for all the headphones of that era (like the 250 II). It is the cable that I got from sennheiser, but I have no idea if it is...- Mjolnir125
