    New Member Introductions thread

I'm actually not new (joined in 2013 according to my bio), but I've been inactive for several years. Decided to do a nice desktop setup, which has renewed my interest in this site.

    The Leica Thread

The M2 is actually an M2-R, one of about 2000 made. Lenses are: 35mm Summaron F3.5, one with and one without eyes. 50mm Elmar F2.8 collapsible, 50mm Summicron F2.0 collapsible, and 50mm Summicron F2.0 rigid. 90mm Elmar F4.0 screw mount, 90mm Elmarit F2.8, and 90mm Tele Elmarit F2.8 (Candada)...

    KEF new headphones!

I think the review that said people with a narrow head will have trouble was spot on. The only adjustment is up/down, they get wider as you adjust them down. I believe my melon is pretty average, I don't have an issue with them falling off. I can walk around the house, empty the washer and...

    KEF new headphones!

I have a minor comfort issue, but it's more to do with the fact that I wear glasses. If I have the headphones on for a few hours, I have to adjust my glasses up so the earpiece isn't being clamped behind my ear.

Choosing an "audiophile" DAP to replace iPod classic

I've come to the conclusion that if you want to store your entire library on a portable, it's hard to beat the iPod Classic.

Review and discussions - Audioengine D1 24/96 USB and Optical DAC/amp for laptops and computers

The gift card kind of limits me, plus I would be getting the D1 for just $70 out of pocket. The other option I'm considering is the TEAC HD-01, but that's another $230. I think I'd rather put that money toward some portable devices.

    KEF new headphones!

Quote: I don't have to have the music up very loud to make the television inaudible. If I pause the music, though, I can hear things well enough to carry on a conversation. Which is what I prefer, I don't care for that anechoic chamber sensation. Personally, I think they would be just fine...

Review and discussions - Audioengine D1 24/96 USB and Optical DAC/amp for laptops and computers

I have a $100 gift card at Crutchfield, I'm thinking of spending it on a D1. I haven't been able to find anything else there that interests me.

    KEF new headphones!

I've been listening to them straight from my iPhone, they sound awesome. I've also tried them on an old iPod Nano, although I only listened to one song (Van Halen). I haven't tried them with an amp yet, that's a week or two away from happening.

    KEF new headphones!

Quote: Not sure what kind of music you like, but last night I rediscovered the Claude Bolling / Yo-Yo Ma recording "Suite for Cello and Jazz Piano Trio." It was mesmerizing, but you have to like classical / jazz.

    KEF new headphones!

I have found that if I adjust them so that they are centered up and down on my ear and so the headband just lightly touches the top of my head, they are extremely comfortable and sound fantastic. I had about a three hour listening session with them last night with a wide variety of music, my...

    KEF new headphones!

Well, there was a box waiting for me on the front porch when I got home for work. Golf league prevented me from giving them a good listen, I've got them plugged in right now. They remind me a lot of KEF speakers, which is a good thing.

    JDS Labs C5/C5D (pg96) portable amp/amp+DAC

Nice review. I have to say those black end plates look sweet.

    KEF new headphones!

I've been buying audio gear since the early 1970's, you can go bankrupt chasing perfection. You should participate in a blind test sometime, you'll be amazed at how much of a factor your mind can be. I ordered mine through KEF-Direct.

    KEF new headphones!

Hey, Trunks- when you ordered yours, did you get any kind of confirmation email that they had been shipped? I ordered a set last Thursday and I've just gotten an email that they received my order. Also, did you go for the 2nd day air or ground shipping? I'm experiencing some impatience!

Best portable DAC/Amps for iPhone 5...

This thread interests me as well. I own an iPhone 5 which I'd like to pair up with a small portable amp. I would probably prefer a DAC/amp combo, but an analog amp that would still permit me to use the remote volume controls and phone answering buttons + mic for the iPhone might also be...

    Orthodynamic Roundup

This thread is interesting to me. I had a pair of Yamaha HP-2 headphones for the longest time, as near as I can recall I bought them in 1976 or 1977. They got quite a bit of use, but then wound up in a box in my basement for the past 20 years or so. Sometime last year I dropped them off at the...

Full Sized Portable Cans Opinions? ($200-$350)

I like what I've read about the PSB M4U1. I dropped it from my list because it's bulky, a bit on the heavy side, and doesn't fold very compact for travel. I wish there was someplace I could go and audition some of these options in person. Going by internet reviews is tough.

Full Sized Portable Cans Opinions? ($200-$350)

Just experience through the years with their products. I've never owned anything of their's, but quite a few friends have. I always found the sound to be very neutral. Stylistically, I've never liked their products, too avant-garde for my taste. The H-6 seems much more traditional, though.

Full Sized Portable Cans Opinions? ($200-$350)

I've always been partial to flat frequency responses, I don't like to hear any part of the spectrum over emphasized. I want to hear as close as possible to what the artists intended.   Of course, my hearing isn't what it used to be. I've lost quite a bit in the higher frequencies. So what...

Full Sized Portable Cans Opinions? ($200-$350)

Yeah, the V-Moda M-100 is on my list along with the MDR-1R and a few of the Ultrasone models (although it seems they would require I figure out a cable with mic and they appear to have a fair amount of plastic).   For looks alone, I would choose the new B&O H6. The aluminum and leather just...
