Output impedance about 60 ohms. Tube rectification ether mercury vapor rectifiers 866 or 3DG4,5AU4 or 5CU4 rectifiers. The mercury vapor rectifiers have a constant voltage drop 15 volts regardless of the power draw. And their blue glow looks cool and can handle 1 amp. Sound should be similar to...

The 5CU4 is a great tube low voltage drop high current. Most amps can't use it but yours can. A bit hard to find though. Glenn

Glad to talk to you guys again. Have to build some amps to stop me from going crazy. In hospital for months takes a toll. Being bed ridden and watching TV can't do it anymore. Don't work anymore so just sit Infront of the TV losing my mind. Do listen to music too but have to do something. Only...

5CU4 is a great rectifier tube for the OTL but draws over 3amps filament current might overheat the transformer in other amps.

I will get that amp back to you. My problem now is I am to feeble to pick the amp up in the box. I will make no more amps with 3 transformers and a couple of chokes just to heavy now. Glenn

Hi Have you taken the bottom off? Might have a bad plate resistors on the 6SN7. At a point I thought that boutique parts would be better. RONG many unreliable. I used Amtrans AMRG resistors on the plate load of the 6SN7 many have gone bad drifting when they worm up. Replace them with a 22K ohm...

Hi All I am back somewhat feeble now but plan on working on amps again in a limited amount. Designing a OTL amp that will drive the Caldera planar headphone properly as well as other high impedance phones. Going to use 7236 or 6336 output tubes with 6J5/L63 drivers better sounding than any...

It only hurts for a second ! Try some of these cut one off then cut the wire stick one wire in one side one in the other ant tighten the set screws. Easy peasy I use these at work all the time.

That should work no connection to the screen grid. Just remember that it has CCS set for the EL3N with LED bias on the cathode. Try it can't heart try it see how it sounds.

Tuff wire to work with I use it at work to feed power and signals to sensors. High power frequency drives with a 480 volt 50amp square wave to a motor puts out plenty of noise. No noise pickup with 1039A double shielded cable.

Back from a week in Pennsylvania buying used machines from company's that closed down. And dismantling them so they can fit in a truck. Feel like a scavenger buying up machines that were peoples lively hood a couple of months ago. A long 12hr drive back yesterday. Did get to buy some good food...

Trying to get back to normal building but this new job is killing my life. These 50 to 60 year old machines are killing me at least the updated ones. The really old machines with tubes give no problems. I can bring my noisy 6SN7s to work and use them in a machine. two 6SN7 driving a 6012...

The 10Y>300B sounds great had them for 16 years now. But I don't think I would make this direct coupled amp for anyone as the B+ voltage is 850

The EL3N is a really good sounding tube also. But to really use it in a spud amp really needs a input transformer to boost the input signal to get a decent output.

Not that unreasonable I paid allot more then that for 300Bs. Might have to do something about that cathode resistor bypass capacitor and get it out of there. My direct coupled 300B amp has no capacitors at all in the signal path except for the last capacitor in the power supply. That is a hard...

Why not just use the recommended transformer and forget about parafeed leave out that capacitor no capacitor really sounds good.

I think a spud amp using a EML-20B should sound fantastic. Always wanted to build a amp with this tube. Will be a costly build but few parts the less parts the better the sound. KISS http://www.emissionlabs.com/datasheets/20b-ota-1.pdf
