Inconsistency in 4.4mm Pentaconn manufacturing?
Hoping someone might be able to shed some light on this running issue I've had for a while. I've owned a number of amps and cables with 4.4mm balanced connectors through the years, and I've always had an issue of poor connection between certain amps and cables, and I'm not really sure where the...- Kukuk

Post Your Video Game Screenshots!
I'm a little surprised there isn't one of these threads. Pretty straightforward: post some noteworthy screenshots from games you've been playing recently. Whether it's because the graphics look particularly nice, you've gained some neat achievement, you really like a character you've made, or...- Kukuk

The Random Headphone Musings Thread
I feel like we need a thread like this, for random thoughts and impressions on headphones that don't really warrant making a thread. While not really meant for full reviews, they'd certainly be welcome here. I've been using the LCD-2 Classics exclusively for about a week now, and I gotta say...- Kukuk

Looking for DAC/Amp, $500-$1000
With tax time around the corner, I'm mulling over the idea of buying a new DAC/Amp. In an effort to simplify my setup, I'd like it to be both in a single unit. The amp portion mainly needs to be powerful enough to power some of the more demanding low impedance headphones out there, like planar...- Kukuk

Getting audio interference between amp and computer.
I recently got a Beyerdynamic A20 amp, and I love it. I intended to have it replace my Schiit Magni 2 and simplify my multi-amp setup, but I get some nasty interference from my computer with it. At first I thought it was maybe an issue with poorly shielded cables or something, so I swapped...- Kukuk

Getting high amount of bass distortion from Schiit Modi 2 (USB)
Heya, this has been a problem for me since I got the Modi 2. The distortion really only seems to be audible at under 100hz or so. I've tested every variable, and it seems to be my computer. I'm not really sure how to fix it, though. I thought it might be the 6ft cable I was using. Tested a...- Kukuk

E3 is almost here!
Who's excited? Press conferences will begin on Monday (June 10th). With new consoles announced, there's sure to be oodles of good stuff shown. Expectations? Hopes? Fears? Post 'em here. I don't really have any expectations, but I'm hoping Final Fantasy Versus XIII will make an...- Kukuk

Mid-centric closed headphones?
I've been kind of out of the loop with new headphones lately, and am wondering what closed headphones out there are very mid-centric. I've owned the AKG K271s (which are great) and the Sony MDR-CD900STs (which are beyond marvelous), and I've heard, very briefly, Beyerdynamic DT48's, but I'm...- Kukuk

ZX700's VERY noisy out of Little Dot I+
This is really bugging me: when running my ZX700's out of my Little Dot I+ the signal is very noisy. From what I gather an impedance adapter would fix this, is my understand correct? If so, where could I get one?- Kukuk

So, who's psyched for E3?
Tomorrow the press conferences begin, and that's where the biggest info of the show is going to drop. I'm getting pretty excited myself. I always love hearing about new games, and the rumors of new hardware have me pretty interested as well! Really looking forward to Sony's showing. They...- Kukuk

Quick Question on changing op-amp.
I was going to post this in the Little Dot I+ thread, but that thread is pretty much dead. I just want to know, is there anything special I have to do when changing the op-amp? As far as I've gathered, it looks like you don't need to change any jumpers or switches or anything, but I want to be...- Kukuk

Cleaning Vacuum Tube Pins?
What is the best way to go about cleaning vacuum tube pins? I've been getting some noise for a while, and it's finally become a bother to me. I've heard folks say there is a special solution+brush that you can buy that will remove oxidization, but I don't know where to find such a thing. Any...- Kukuk

Sony MDR-CD900ST, why don't these get more love?
About a week ago I received my Sony MDR-CD900ST's, and I've put a good amount of time on them (been hitting them pretty much non-stop, actually), and I've come to the conclusion that they have among the best mids in a headphone I've ever heard. Ever since getting my AKG K271's I considered...- Kukuk

Contemplating getting a Zero DAC, and I have a question.
So, as the thread title says, I'm contemplating getting a Zero DAC. The one I'm considering doesn't have USB input, only coax and toslink. My question is, using the outputs on my motherboard (since my sound card doesn't have toslink, though I think it might have Creative's custom formed coax)...- Kukuk

Beyerdynamic DT770/600 with Little Dot I+?
Wondering how well the Little Dot I+ will be able to power the 600 ohm version of the DT770's. I may possibly get these headphones, but I'm really not sure how well they will pair. Looking at some threads it looks like the Little Dot I+ pairs poorly with high impedance headphones, but I haven't...- Kukuk

Windows 7 Low Volume?
I recently moved from Windows XP to Windows 7, and while generally pleased with the sound I'm getting, I'm a little annoyed by the fact that Win7 runs considerably quieter than XP. On XP I had my Little Dot I+ set at about 20-25, but on Win 7 I have it set to 50-60. Is there a reason for this...- Kukuk

Optimal computer volume?
Just got my Little Dot I+ (love it!) and running out of my computer, and I'm wondering: is there a certain volume I should set my computer to for optimal sound quality? Or does it just not matter? EDIT: Ah, this might be the wrong section. Although this is kind of relevant to two boards. :P- Kukuk

Looking into speakers.
So I'm looking into speakers I might want to buy in the future. Problem is, I really don't know much about them. I know headphone brands and such, but I really don't know speakers at all. I'd like a pair of speakers that could match my K271's in quality and sound signature. I like the mids...- Kukuk

Can new drivers offer this much of a change? Is it just in my mind?
I recently installed Windows 7, and with it I got new drivers. I've always had trouble with the drivers for my Sound Blaster Audigy 2 on Windows XP, particularly with getting them installed properly, but installing the new drivers on Win7 went without a hassle. Not only did it install much...- Kukuk

MDR-V6 to K271MKII?
So after about a month of researching headphone and balancing priorities, I've finally pulled the trigger on my next headphone purchase. As the title mentioned, I've settled on the K271MKII's, and I'm wondering what kind of improvements I'll be seeing in sound quality. I've heard many people say...- Kukuk

A little overwhelmed, need some Beyerdynamic help.
Looking into headphones I might get in the future, and the Beyerdynamics have caught my eye. But there's so many different types! There's the DT770's in 3 variations, DT880's in 3 variations, and DT990's in 3 variations! Not really interested in the D770's, since I'm looking into...- Kukuk

Closed, ~$60 for Folk. EDIT: Help No Longer Needed.
Looking for some decent isolating headphones. Right now I'm thinking MDR-V6's, but they fluctuate wildly in price, so if I can't get them for $60 I'd like to have a backup plan. As the title says, need them to be closed, used primarily for folk rock and stuff. Have to work unamped as well...- Kukuk

Good ~$60 Semi/Open Headphone?
Looking for a new set of headphone, I want something that is basically the opposite of my XB700's. I figure they'll mostly be used for games and classical music. I was looking at the AKG K99 and Sennheiser HD515s, but I really don't know anything regarding open headphones at this price range...- Kukuk
