    SR60 or SR80 - which is best?

I have both. Which is *best *depends on your source and if you are going to use them with and amp. The 60 is slightly easier to drive so some use them with portable CD players with weaker outputs. The 80 require a bit more power, so they sound lower in volume hooked up to the same source...

    Thinking about getting AKG K501's

I've enjoyed mine since getting them a few months back, but they might not fit some of your expectations... "I want to sort of make a shift from warm analog smooth relaxing sound to cold, deutsch, accurate, unforgiving sound. " -they are very smooth, and are fairly forgiving on most...

    More on safe listening levels

Quote: Originally posted by gaineso However, when I was in Ocala at AlliedSignal Aerospace, we had 2 500 ton presses and 4 100 ton. These were stamping presses and the sound from them, especially the bigger ones, was very low frequency. The company used a fancy meter, calibrated and...

    Your favorite instruments

Mainly the piano - 'the miniature orchestra' Also strings - violin in expert hands is amazing... Nylon guitar - I've been listening to Schubert's "Trout" quintent in A Maj and I would recommend the version with Rudolph Serkin on piano. One of the most 'fun' and nicley recorded versions...

    More on safe listening levels

gainso- I use the RS digital version SPL meter, C weighting, fast response and use its capture function or MAX reading. The analog meter tends to be slower and show more of an average reading. I recommend trying (or buying) the digital version. It shows that I was actually listening louder than...

Are you a freak about your CDs? ;)

Yep... I must have the same bug too. I also don't like *ANY* scratches on my CDs as well. I mainly use older top loading CDPs because some slide-out trays put micro-scratches on the disc's surface... I just cannot believe how some treat their discs. Just look at the pawn shops or library for...

Hi Audio&Me, Charlie Parker - sax Dave Brubeck - piano Dizzy Gillespie - Trumpet Theolonius Monk - piano (kind of left field but a personal favorite) These are a great place to start... Depends on what instruments, etc. you care to listen to. If you can be more specific to what you like...

    Favorite C64 games?

C64 ? I was not in that financial league at the time...but I did have (well still have ) a VIC20 with the Datasette. I don't even want to add up all the time I "spent" waiting for the program tapes to load... Sigh...the Old Days... I'm glad some still remember. Emulators for almost all the...

    High Failure rate for D-25S

No problems here. I received two units serial # xxxx10 and # xxxx11. One seems more resistant to skipping due to bumping it around than the other, but they both seem acceptable and do not skip unless there is a flaw on the top side of the CD. CDs from my local library (badly scratched) did not...

    What Mic To Purchase?

I second what ai0tron says. Definately get an 'OMNIDIRECTIONAL' mic. You should be able to find one that clips on to your shirt, coat, etc. this style is a 'lavalier mic'. Don't know about stereo versions, but I found this link:http://www.sennheiserusa.com/pages/p...o/lavalier.htm

    What has happened to Head-Fi?

Beagle: I hope my thread on "natural cans" did not bother you. It was done with sincere hopes of finding *new* phones to try out since I cannot audition all of them before buying. The last time I even looked at message boards was 2 years ago at Headwize- where I found out about Grados and...

Most "natural" sounding cans... Some HELP please.

WOW , the horse has been dead, kicked a few times, buried, dug up again, kicked some more and finally buried again. Seriously though, thanks to ALL who responded to this thread. I was able to get some differing opinions from this thread and the other similar threads. So know I at least know...

Most "natural" sounding cans... Some HELP please.

Beagle: What I tried to convey by using the tern "natural" was the sound of 'live musicians playing in a room' - since I mainly listen to classical and jazz I think this is the feature of sound I want. My SR-80s put you alongside the musicians but don't portay the overall picture that I hear...

Most "natural" sounding cans... Some HELP please.

kwkarth - I didn't know that the Creek OBH-11SE was discrete transistors, i thought it was an opamp with a buffer. COOL! Now I know you're enticing me- the MAX huh? I bet it does sound good! As a note, I was thinking of building Kevin Gilmore's Class A Discrete Amp. Gilmore said he liked...

Most "natural" sounding cans... Some HELP please.

gloco- yeah I agree to your 60/80 comparison. The 80s extend lower , at least cleaner and smoother sounding, but the 60s seem to have more mid and upper bass resulting in the appearance of *more* bass- well at least to my ears. I was really trying to get a comparison of the K501s with something...

    Help an idiot! power/soldering questions
