    Schiit Modi vs Fubar II

I've had a Fubar II for years, and replaced the stock opamps with AD797. It sounds good to me, but I was wondering if there was anything better I could get for relatively cheap. I've heard great things about the Schiit Modi, but considering its price I wasn't sure if it would be a real upgrade...

    Upgrade from Fubar II

I currently have a Fubar II with OPA627s in place of the stock op-amps that I'm using with a Little Dot Mk V amp and DT 990s. I love the setup, but I have a feeling that I could be getting more out of it. I definitely want to stick with the Little Dot, but I'd like to know what else is out there...

Anodizing Little Dot MK V faceplate

I have the MK V amp with the stock brushed aluminum faceplate. I'd like it anodized to black. Do any of you know a way to blacken already-anodized aluminum, and if not, are there any good/cheap online places that I can send it to to get refinished? I would really like an oil-rubbed bronze...

Upgrade from Fubar II - $250-ish

I've had the Fubar II for over a year, and I just got a Little Dot MKV amp. It sounds great with my Denon D2000, but I'm wondering if there's a better DAC out there for $250 or less that would be a significant improvement. I don't really have any problems with the Fubar, I'd just like to...

Little Dot Mk V - question

Hi, I have the Denon D2000 and have been searching Head-Fi for a good amp in the $250-300 range and came across the Little Dot Mk V many times. I have read that it has hissing problems with low-impedance headphones. However, I could buy a resistance adapter for it. Do you think this amp would...

    Looking for upgrade to full-size/semi-portable - $250

I'm almost exactly copying this from the portable amps forum: Hi, I've had an AMB Mini^3 for a while now, a Fubar II USB DAC, and Denon D2000. I really like the snappy sound of the Mini, but I just decided to plug the Fubar into my Yamaha RX-V757 receiver, which I thought was quite inferior...

Looking for beefy amp for Denon D2000

Hi, I've had an AMB Mini^3 for a while now, and a Fubar II USB DAC. I really like the snappy sound of the Mini, but I just decided to plug the Fubar into my Yamaha RX-V757 receiver, which I thought was quite inferior. Well, to me, it sounds better in every way than the Mini except for maybe a...

    Removing D2000 foam good/bad?

I was wondering if removing the foam from the D2000s would make it sound any different/better/worse. It made a slight difference with my other headphones so I was curious if I could do it to these too. Anybody know? Thanks

Help finding replacement opamp - Fubar II

Hi, I have a Fubar II USB DAC I got a while ago and a Mini³ amp. The Fubar currently has an OPA2604 opamp, which sounds fine with my Denon D2000, but a bit too laid back and soft. I'm looking for something with a bit more punch and detail, but not too harsh. I've researched a bit and it seems...

Looking for fast, deep headphones under $250

I bought the Audio-Technica ATH-AD900 headphones a while ago to replace my Sennheiser HD280s. They're an excellent pair of phones, but their bass is lacking and I really have to boost the EQ a lot to get it to where I want. I love the clarity and speed as well as the midrange of the AD900s, but...

    Terrible USB sound problem

I posted this over at Neowin forums to see what people thought, and I had no responses yet. Seems like you guys might too, so I'll post it here as well. I've had this Dell E1505 computer for just over a year now (just past the warranty expiration) and I've been having some USB audio issues. I...

    Headphones bottoming out? Help

I know I just posted a review of how much I love my AD900s, but there seems to be a problem with them. Whenever I turn the volume up to a moderately loud level, the right channel especially seems to make a clicking noise during heavy bass passages. It claims to take up to 700 mW of power, and I...

    Audio-Technica ATH-AD900 review

Hi everyone. I know I'm not well known around here, but I decided to give a review of my headphones a shot. I got the open-back AD900s a few months ago (August) and was amazed the second I put them on. I soon got a Mini³ amp, which made the sound surprisingly better than before. My sources...

    Alien DAC or other?

I'm looking to get a new DAC, under $150, that has a USB input. I don't care about any features, I just want good clean sound. I hear the Alien DAC is good for the money, but was wondering if there is anything better for $150 or less. I'm considering the 0404 as well. Thanks, Chris

    Looking for USB DAC, <$150

Hi, I've been looking around for a quality USB DAC to connect to my Mini³ amp. I want something preferably 24-bit, but because of the price limit I'd be fine with 16-bit as long as it's good. My main choices are the M-Audio Transit (did they discontinue it recently? it's not on their site), the...

    Vista's "enhancements" maul your sound!

I've had Vista installed for a while (disappointed) and turned on the bass limiter enhancement which supposedly boosts bass at a certain frequency while cutting anything below. Well, it did boost the bass, but didn't cut any of the other sound (which I preferred). However, I noticed on some...

    Good/cheap DAC/amp combo for AD900s?

I just got the AD900s, and I've heard they don't improve all that much with an amp, but I'm running them out of my onboard laptop audio. So, I was wondering if there's anything good out there for $150 or less that has both an amp/DAC. I know the Bithead is one, but are there others? Thanks, Chris

    Just got Audio-Technica AD900

FedEx came around 3PM today with my new AD900s. I was using Sennheiser HD280 Pros, and sounded really good to me at the time, especially with the tack mod. Bass was really deep, etc. When I tried the new Audio-Technicas, I was immediately impressed. Very airy and detailed without being harsh...

    Very weird MP3 quality tester

I built a simple CMoy amp a while back, and never actually soldered everything together. So tonight I plugged it in, and one of the terminals going to the headphone jack came loose, and the "center" channel was knocked out, sort of like if you don't plug the jack all the way in. However, I...

    ATH-AD900 question

I'm looking for a new pair of headphones to replace my two-year-old Sennheiser HD280 Pros. They've served me very well, and they're just falling apart now. I want something with a bit more punch to the bass than these, which are deep but not very slam-y. I've heard that the AD900s are punchy and...

    Blu-Tack HD280 mod does wonders

I just got some blu-tack today and applied it to the insides of my HD280. Definitely worth it, makes the bass a lot punchier and snappier sounding without losing any bass depth. Whoever has HD280s should do it; I can't find any side effects (bad) to doing this. Thanks to whoever came up with this!

    ATH-M2X a surprise gem

I haven't posted in a long time, but I just got some $15 Audio-Technica ATH-M2X headphones from Musician's Friend. Once I equalize the treble up a bit, they sound excellent. Ear positioning is important too, but once you get them right, they're very, very nice. I can't believe the sound for this...

    X-Fi causing bass to clip

I just got the Xmod today and have had the XtremeMusic card for a while now, and with the Crystalizer on, some tracks with deep bass cause it to clip and sound terrible. It almost sounds like when a subwoofer clips and the woofer goes to its extension limit. It only happens when some type of EQ...

Down to three or four choices

I've been researching headphones like crazy, and the other day I went to a pro audio store to listen to some headphones there. I found I liked the AKG k271 the best out of the bunch, that bunch not being too high-end. I also liked a certain type of Ultrasone (I forget which) but I doubt I'll be...

Looking for a powered amp under $150

I'm probably going to get new headphones for Christmas, and I want a halfway portable amp that has an AC adapter. I don't mind lugging along the adapter as long as it isn't huge. The headphones I'm looking to power will most likely either be the AKG k271 or the k601. I do EQ, so I don't mind if...
