10,000 Word Reviews
There is a point at which I think a review about audio gear ceases to be useful. And I think most reviews are not useful from the outset, with a tendency to be more about the reviewer than the reviewed product. Being succinct is a challenge--I wish more reviews were concisely written. That is...- The Monkey

Editing or Deleting an Added Item in Head Gear DB
Can we have the ability to edit the title of an entry in the Head Gear DB? It does not currently seem to allow this. Also, is it possible to allow the deletion of an added item? I added the PerfectWave PWD, but the title of the entry says "Networking DAC," which is not the product...- The Monkey

Advertising Claims
Opinion as fact seems to dominate these days. However, contrary to what most seem to believe, a marketer and its affiliates/agents can't just make any claim about their products without having a shred of evidence or some rational basis to back up such claims. I think we should be doing a better...- The Monkey

Question: Cheapest Cable That Has Made a Significant Difference (in your experience)
First, I am cable agnostic. Second, this is not a trick question. Third, I do not wish to start a debate about believers vs. non-believers--take that elsewhere. Here's my question: to those of you who have experienced a sonic difference between different cables, what is the cheapest pair of...- The Monkey

The Effect of Various Cables on the Audio-GD Reference One
It appears that some owners believe cabling makes a big difference with this piece of equipment. I start this thread to encourage the posting of such observations here.- The Monkey

vbulletin question
I'm looking into creating a forum for a specific interest (non-headphone). For various reasons, I have decided to use vbulletin. However, I would like to avoid as much of the installation and back end stuff as possible. Are there any hosting services that are particularly good with vbulletin...- The Monkey

Next significant upgrade after the $1k DAC?
It seems that $1k (used) is something of a sweet spot for DACs. I currently have the North Star m192 mk2 and the Electrocompaniet ECD-1. Both can be found used for ~ $900 - $1200. To me, each blows away the Benchmark DAC1 and Lavry DA10. My question is (are), what is the next level of DAC, the...- The Monkey

Poll: Do You Support a Separate Electrostatic/Planar Headphone/Amp Forum?
Following up on an earlier thread I started, I figured a poll might be a helpful indicator of how much support there is for a separate electrostatic/planar forum. My reasoning is that the threads dedicated to these topics (e.g., the Stax "New" thread, the ortho thread) have become dense and...- The Monkey

Separate Electrostatic/Planar Headphone/Amp Forum?
Given the size of the "Stax (new)" thread and the introduction of the Jade and some new 'stat amps, I am beginning to think that a forum dedicated to electrostatic phones and amps might be a good idea. Any thoughts? EDIT: after the helpful input in this thread, I want to clarify that I agree...- The Monkey

Fill out your Profile
Over the last several months, there have been more than a few posters who trumpet as the second coming whatever phone/amp/source they are raving about. SPDIF--->USB
Do there exist converters to go from SPDIF to USB? And if so, does a PC need to part of the mix? Reason for asking: I would like to take the optical out of my Apple Express and run it to a USB-only DAC. Is this possible?- The Monkey

XLR to XLR Interconnect -- Shield?
So I'm building a XLR to XLR IC. I understand that I'll be using Pins 2 & 3, and maybe leaving 1 untouched. However, if I want to provide some shielding, do I tie the shield to Pin 1? If so, only on source end, correct?- The Monkey

Harbeths
At CanJam, the Harbeths won my heart over the Amphions (which were no slouch either). A question I have, however, is how the Harbeths perform in a non-nearfield environment (and the Amhions, too). I didn't get a good sense of this at CanJam and would appreciate impressions.- The Monkey

Any recommendations for a good, easy to use digital picture frame? I'll be using it in my office. It doesn't need all kinds of bells and whistles like audio, wireless, etc. Just nice image quality and the ability to shuffle pics randomly.- The Monkey
