Kings of Leon... Yay or Nay?
For some reason I wrote them off a long time ago but I hear a song once in a while that has me pull up an album for a listen. Listening to 'Mechanical Bull' right now. Something I might throw on when driving several hours right before I start to fall asleep and switch to Pantera - Vulgar... -
Impressed with onboard sound of new Haswell PC
I just picked up a Dell box mainly for my wife to be able to work from home. I threw my FLAC collection on it and setup Foobar the other day and when I plugged my Grados in I was pleasantly surprised. This onboard audio sounds much better to my ears than the old Realtek 97 audio on my old PC...- Ingo

NEED A SIMPLE DAC TO CONNECT HDTV TO STEREO RECEIVER
My grandparents just bought a new Samsung HDTV and it doesn't have any analog audio outputs. I was kinda shocked but i guess this makes sense to a company that wants to sell home-theater implements along with their TVs. Is the a cheap DAC that will let me do optical and decode whatever the TV...- Ingo

Journey From Headphone to Vintage Audio
Head-Fi really opened up Audio as a hobby to me. I started off here after I bought a Rio Karma and was looking into new headphones, as many people do. For a long time I was content with my nice IEMs and a portable music player. Then I got the itch to build a "PC as Source" setup with a dedicated...- Ingo

Sansa Fuze: Late to the party...
So, I was searching for a cheap-o mp3 player to give to my girlfriend for her B-day and I just happen to walk in to a Radio Shack while they were having a sale on the 4gb Fuze ($59.99). I had no idea the reputation of this player when I bought it, but it looked pretty good for the price...- Ingo

In Rememberance of the Rio Karma
I'm putting some music on this little Sansa Fuze I bought my girlfriend for her birthday. It's a pretty sweet little player. Then I started reminiscing about all the wonderful time I spent with my Rio Karma back in the day. HEY! Why the heCK hasn't anything come along IN 6 YEARS that comes...- Ingo

The Song Remains The Same OST Vinyl Reissue
Anyone else have this? I can't stop playing it. Right now I have 'No Quarter' cranked to ELEVEN. I would die right now if I could go back and be at this concert. -
Sara Watkins Solo Debut (from Nickel Creek)
So I got home late last night just in time to catch the end of Fallon. Much to my suprise, I find Sara Watkins with Sean Watkins' guitar accompaniment and JOHN PAUL JONES playing bass?! Now I find out that she released her debut solo album today and it's produced by Jones! What is it... -
HELP! Freakin' Computer Problems
Thank you to anybody who is reading this and is willing to help me out. I have a problem that may be very simple, but nevertheless it's a big problem for me. I was trying to reinstall XP with my install disk and it just kept booting me into windows. I changed my boot priority and that didn't...- Ingo

Ever get scared by your headphones?
Right now I'm listening to 'Fleet Foxes' on my homer rig and I was sitting here reading around head-fi and between 2 songs I heard some voices from behind me on either side of my head. A chill ran down my spine and I spun around to see who was behind me. Took me a second to realize that it was...- Ingo

Merle Haggard and The Strangers - Okie From Muskogee (LP)
Recorded live in Muskogee, Oklahoma in 1969. Jaw-dropping. There's very few live albums that sound this good. There couldn't be a better way to hear this set of songs than on this LP. One of the best voices (and the most imitated), in the history of country music. It's amazing that... -
The Zombies - Odessey and Oracle re-issue (LP)
I just picked up the vinyl re-issue of this album (stereo). Sounds pretty good. Amazing album. Does anyone else have this re-issue? One thing I noticed was that the cymbals don't sound very prominent? Is this an issue of re-mastering or are they just set back in the mix? -
Vinyl - Appearances can be deceiving... Seriously
So, I have two copies of Led Zeppelin II. One copy has zero scratches, looks basically brand spanken new, and plays pretty good. I've always thought the sound was a bit dull, but I always attributed it to the age of the recording. Well, thing is, I never broke out the other copy of 'II'...- Ingo

Best Netbook?
I've been pondering the idea of getting my girlfriend a netbook for Christmas this year. The Acer Aspire One was the one that originally caught my eye and is one of the options I could resonably aquire in just a couple days. They have the 120GB Windows XP version at the Coscto Wholesale I work...- Ingo

Soul Crushing Instrumentals
Not that they're sad or somber in their tone, but music that makes you feel insigificant because of how mind-blowing it is. Stuff that shows you that you have no hope of ever creating something so awesome. Makes me wanna cry. I've been out of the 'head-fi' world for a while due to the drain... -
Bands That Desperately Need To Make Another Album
Right now I'm sitting here listening to Nickel Creek's spectacu-stellar-iffic-magnifi-tastic album 'This Side' and I'm really bummed that they aren't putting out any music. Their last album 'Why Should The Fire Die' is ironically the end of the story, at this point. I wasn't really even happy... -
HELP! RIGHT CHANNEL DEAD ON MY VINYL RIG!
So, my almost brand-new Pro-Ject Debut III is dead in the right channel! What the heck? Here's what I know: - The headshell leads look fine. - The stylus was fine last time I played a record and looks ok to the naked eye. - It's NOT the receiver. - When I put the balance all the way...- Ingo

Violin, a perfect jazz instrument.
Right now I'm listening to a supergroup recording with Norman Blake, Tut Taylor, Sam Bush, Butch Robins, Vassar Clements, David Holland, and Jethro Burns. Most of the songs on here are pretty straight forward instrumental bluegrass but there are a few that are very much jazz. One song features a... -
Pretty Awesome Day At The Record Shop!
Well, I went to a record store today that I hadn't been to before. It's only a few minutes away from my house, but I had never seen/heard about it before. I walked in and said hi to an employee and started going through their new arrivals/on sale bin that they have right at the front door... -
Buying a Pro-Ject TT, NeedleDoctor Ok?
I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with Needle Doctor. I'm going to buy a Pro-Ject Debut III and I want to have the cartridge swapped out before they ship it to me. Is there any reason not to have them do it there (would you trust them to set it up properly?). I'm planning on...- Ingo

Why aren't 'The Doobie Brothers' as revered as some?
I'm listening to the Doob's "The Captain and Me" album right now (one of my favorite classic rock albums) and I just can't see how I don't hear them mentioned along side the other great classic rockers very often. Why is that? EDIT - OOPS COULD SOMEONE MOVE THIS OVER TO MUSIC? -
ZZ Top: How cool can one band be?
I can see the teenagers of the ZZ Top day riding around in their camaros and firebirds blaring 'Gimme All Your Lovin' on their way to a kegger. I don't think there's a band out there that personifies cool more adequately thank ZZ Top... Seriously -
Light-Hearted Music, Anyone?
I'm sitting here listening to a nice clean vinyl LP called "Attempted Mustache" from 1973 by a guy named Loudon Wainwright III. The lyrics are light and cheeky and the music is pretty much on par with that. Well, this got me thinking about all the artists I listen to that have fun... -
Considering Pro-Ject Debut III
For a while I've been in the "buy an old turntable for better value" camp, but lately I've been tempted by the Pro-Ject Debut III. Here's a few things that I've been pondering: - From what I've heard about the Ortofon OM-5E I'm sure I'll be replacing it right away. What is a good cart...- Ingo

So... Who is hitting the slopes this week?
Well, after a dismal outlook on the skiing season by everyone here in Arizona we get 2 big early December storms and end up with an awesome start to the season. Skiing/Snowboarding really isn't synonomous with Arizona, but we do in fact have a couple decent parks. In the past 2 weeks Arizona...- Ingo
