Ultimate Ears UE 900 Discussion and Impressions Thread

I just got off the phone with Logitech this morning regarding an issue with another device (UE 4000) and when asked specifically about the UE 900S they said it was being discontinued.  When I asked if it was no longer being manufactured she said that was correct, and confirmed we were...

    Skeptico Saloon: An Objectivist Joint

Sorry for the late replay.   1) Yes, PC is the source - there's ways of implementing it without a PC - MiniDSP has released Ambio units which will get you pan ambio - no convolution, but if you reduce the volume of the back channels it will expand the width a slight bit further according to...

    Skeptico Saloon: An Objectivist Joint

The front channels have to be tight together, but it will work as long as you're centered and far enough away to generate a tight angle for the lower delay levels.  For example if the speakers surrounded a 5' screen you would need to sit ~10' away at the least (basically double whatever the...

    Skeptico Saloon: An Objectivist Joint

I think it's going for the same end game, but yours uses localization while ambiophonics tries to eliminate localization of the speakers so that the recording provides it instead if that makes sense.   First, ambiophonics only requires four speakers though more are welcome as ambiance...

    Skeptico Saloon: An Objectivist Joint

Well you have to listen in the sweetspot much like you would a narrow dispersion ESL.  Since the speakers are place close together (30 degree total angle max compared to the 60 of a normal stereo triangle) means that reflections and resonance should usually be quite similar.  It also helps...

    Skeptico Saloon: An Objectivist Joint

Wikipedia has a solid intro on it:     Things that are similar but not quite up to snuff in the past would be Carver Sonic Holography, Polk SDA, etc. if you're familiar with them.  The difference is we now have recursive based elimination (RACE) and keep the front channels center to...

    Skeptico Saloon: An Objectivist Joint

Agreed - if only the map wasn't made by a three year old we could get there faster :D   Either way I've mostly found my ideals in this heathen technology called Ambiophonics outside headphone land so I haven't participated in headphone discussions much recently.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that thought of the B&W house sound listening to these.  They immediately reminded me of 802D's.

New DENON "Music Maniac" & "Urban Raver" Lines: D7100, D600, D400 & C300 Impressions Thread

Not sure where people started discussing the Denon's as neutral.  They aren't, but for some of us they're fun.  In terms of distortion I personally haven't noticed anything though, it's comparable if not a bit less than many speakers.   Of course, I prefer the D600 . . . I think the D7100 is a...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Correct, if I'm reading too much into it then oh well - I really didn't care either way.   EDIT:   I don't know why you edited to Jason's - it was Radio_head's post that was mocking it.

It was mostly sarcastic as the member posting after figured out.  I will take it to email though as bouncing back and forth with a peanut gallery is annoying.

Quote:   Being happy with a resolution != being happy with the situation.   If you want to have this discussion we can, but it has to be PM because I'm not getting blamed for thread trashing.  There is a way to satisfy me, and it costs $0 - just some time chatting where I can air my...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I've been watching this thread and expected this to come up eventually.  I'm not going to bash anyone or anything in particular, but would like add.   Quote:   AKG of course said it's clearly not normal and would likely destroy the headphone with regular use voiding the warranty as it's...

New DENON "Music Maniac" & "Urban Raver" Lines: D7100, D600, D400 & C300 Impressions Thread

I'd guess they weren't selling like they wanted, the various discounts below MSRP at other retailers pretty much solidifies that.   They also dislike the sound presentation, the new Denon's seem to be a hate it or love it proposition.  While they find the AKG K550 better I found it anemic...

New DENON "Music Maniac" & "Urban Raver" Lines: D7100, D600, D400 & C300 Impressions Thread

It's funny you find them "thin" sounding, I would have said that about the HD650 or T1 actually.  One of the reasons I bought these was due to their ability to pull texture and warm full sound.   They keep reminding me of B&W 802D's - definitely not accurate, but a great fun listen.

Out Of Your Head - new virtual surround simulator

I got a chance to try it out yesterday, and I tried it again today but . . . it  sounds wonky no matter what speakers I use (either hollow, bloated, tinny, sound coming from wrong places).  I guess my HRTF is too far off.  In terms of positional accuracy Dolby Headphone wins for me.  In terms of...

AKG K702 (The Classic) vs. K612 Pro (The Upstart) – Review and Comparison

If you look at all of their graphs they have a good degree of variance from Headroom's - the K702 is still similar to the K601 and the HD800 very treble centric.

...degree of which varies.  There's also a study from JAES that correlates some from Fielder and Benjamin - a summary of the finding can be found at *shudder* Stereophile here: http://www.stereophile.com/content/science-subwoofing-page-3   When you include the fact that below 100hz very few...

Err, part of your response doesn't make sense.  I have all types of music actually, plenty with low frequencies both fast and drawn out.  I also have vocal, acoustic, etc.  This is one of the few cans I've found with good bass that doesn't impact the rest negatively.  The M100 looks close, but...

Most of the distortion doesn't occur until lower frequencies where audibility of distortion is traditionally so low it's really not funny. As for ringing, maybe - I've never had a problem with "ringing" per-say on any decent headphone I owned. Maybe you're sensitive to something on it like some...

I went into a local business that had these on display, and after trying them I decided I enjoyed them more than enough to get them . . . assuming I could get them substantially under MSRP which I did.  Let's get started on the good, the bad, and ugly.   Good:   Very easy to drive, you...
