I'm lost searching for a $600-$650 ES9018 DAC
Hi guys, I've been a little bit out of the game for a bit but I really need some help looking for a DAC. Here's the system its going into: SB Touch or SB Emulator (Squeezelite on a MacBook Pro) Digital Output --> (The DAC I need) --> EHHA Rev A or Bijou Amp (have both) --> HD800 and...- wdahm519

Am I Wasting My Time Searching for a DAC?
I think this really depends on the resolution of your system. I can hear a big difference between my Opus DAC, ODAC, and the built in DAC on my Total BitHead. This is using both an EHHA Rev A Amp or a Bijou Amp with HD800's and good source material. If you're system doesn't need a high...- wdahm519

Strange Song-dependent Hiss in System
So here's a puzzler... I'm getting a strange harsh hiss noise in my system that's happening before the amplifier (it can be amplified). My system I'm hearing the noise with: Netgear ReadyNAS Ultra 2 running Logitech Media Server --> LAN Ethernet --> Logitech Squeezebox Touch running Enhanced...- wdahm519

Problems with ODAC
So another update on the ODAC issue. This past Tuesday I had shipped the ODAC to JDS Labs for inspection. On Friday I received the ODAC back with a note that there was an issue with the USB section of the ODAC, and it was replaced for free! Thanks JDS Labs, A+ company! Definitely will...- wdahm519

Problems with ODAC
JDS Labs was very quick to respond to my email that I sent them about the ODAC. Here was their reply: Sorry to hear that. I suspect you have a bad USB connect. Please ship to the address below and we'll inspect: JDS Labs, Inc. RMA #XXX 907 N Bluff Rd, Ste 2A Collinsville, IL 62234 ...- wdahm519

Problems with ODAC
Sounds like the next step is for me to get in contact with JDSLabs and see what they can do. I'll keep this thread updated so if others experience the same issue, they will know what to expect.- wdahm519

Problems with ODAC
I should probably mention that the noise on startup isn't hears through headphones, but just normally when I'm near the ODAC and plugging it in to USB. But I think you're right, I will probably have to get a new one. I'm not sure I have any more warranty on this one anymore though.- wdahm519

Problems with ODAC
Yeah.. I've tried different cables. Like I said, I use the same cable with a TotalBithead and its fine. Its definitely not a cable issue. Its the ODAC.- wdahm519

Problems with ODAC
I know what you mean but the driver for the ODAC should be built into the chip. Its not supposed to require any extra drivers on Windows, Linux, or Mac. It's supposed to be plug and play. I'm using a 8" or 12" USB cable from Monoprice with a ferrite bead on the mini-USB end and...- wdahm519

Problem with ODAC
Hey guys, I'm having some trouble with my ODAC. When I plug it in to certain computers or sources, it will work, and with others it refuses to output sound. See examples below: Windows 7 Desktop (works with other DAC's over same USB port) --> USB Cable --> ODAC = "Windows doesn't...- wdahm519

What is the best DIY DAC up to $500
I'm interested in hearing people's opinions on DAC's (especially DIY) that can outperform the ODAC. I don't have enough money for the Buffalo III and I wonder if the Buffalo 3 only adds more options but not really better sound than the ODAC? Everything else in my system is top notch, at least...- wdahm519

Remember when a DIY'er used these?!?....What a great hobby this was back then...
I used that first case to house my current ODAC. I also used that case about two years ago to house a PIMETA. :) Those little amps were fun to build.- wdahm519

USB to I2S Board Class 1
The Monitor 03 looks like it outputs into analog which would make tapping into the I2S output very difficult in the middle of the board. I'm sure an more electrically-inclined person could do it. I'm not inept by any means but my degree (next month) is in Mechanical Engineering, so I only know...- wdahm519
