The angled pads on Empyrean are nothing less than a game changer. They wasted a lot of potential with the original pads.

Very interesting to read that the tastes are so different. Some prefer AKM and other ESS. But apart from that it seems the K9 Pro has still some hardware/software issues which are pretty annoying and keep me from buying.

Sorry but I don't understand this part of your answer "too lacking in technical performance and detail". I'm able to hear Empyrean, L700 und HD800S side by side. And yes it is a different experience. Empyrean is warm und L700/HD800S have much more energy in mids/highs but there is nothing...

I had the same experiences when I tried it first some years ago but some month ago I bought one for a very good price and actually it is my favorite headphone. And usually I prefer headphones with a different sounding (L700 und HD800S). I don't miss anything in highs or other frequency regions...

I received mine yesterday too. It is a nice little dac+amp but soundwise it is not that special compared to my good old geek out 1000. The differences are nearly zero and for me it is not worth to spent 600€. Maybe my ears are not good enough to hear the improvements :wink:.

First time (2 or 3 years ago) I heard the Empyrean I was so dissapointed. Coming from HD800S. After 1h I sent it back (demo from a dealer). But some weeks ago I had the chance to get it for a nice price and it felt like night and day. This is my favorite headphones at the moment and I could...
