THE WATERCOOLER HEADPHONE EDITION – Headphones, Amps, DACs, and desktop/home audio related – a freewheeling discussion of gear, impressions, music, and musings.

I can only speak to very early impressions, but should have both side by side in early June. From the one time listen, I think the SGL Sr. is more resolving (which it is compared to anything), but the Immanis seemed to have a bit more neutral tonality and better bass while still being really...

THE WATERCOOLER HEADPHONE EDITION – Headphones, Amps, DACs, and desktop/home audio related – a freewheeling discussion of gear, impressions, music, and musings.

They're very unique, so some will love them and others not so much. The Valkyria shines with timbre, particularly with vocals, piano and guitar. Just amazing and very realistic. It's also very intimate and unique in its darker tone (but somehow doesn't come off as too dark to me). It definitely...

I don't have anything valuable to add, but did want to say that I'm rooting for you man.

Vintage OG and Present Day TOTL Impressions

Yup, added distortion to begin with. I just wanted to make sure I clarified that in that instance, I simply used "transparency" as most think of it wrong. It was bothering me all week lol But everything else in that section, similar to the above post today is exactly what I meant. :)

Vintage OG and Present Day TOTL Impressions

I haven't gone back to the Dave just yet the past week or so, as I've been purposely getting to know the Pacific. I want to clarify the above. The Pacific provides a bigger sound, stage, and window into the music (and as a result clarity). I'm hearing very minute details as I mentioned above...

RAAL 1995 headphones, Magna and Immanis

I also thought it was a clear step (at least technically) above the level of the Susvara, which is impressive given just how good the Susvara is. I mentioned this in the Susvara thread a few weeks ago and I think here too more recently... it'll be interesting to see, but I specifically think a...

    Audeze CRBN Interview, Review, Measurements

I owned them both at the same time, in addition to the 009 and 007. If the CRBN and 007 aren't too overlapping, then you'll likely find the x9k a good complement.. as it's quite different overall. More open, holographic and resolving. If on the other hand bass is a sticking point, which it...

HIFIMAN Shangri-La: The New Electrostatic Headphones From HIFIMAN

Thanks for the distinction. And that's totally correct, it was low level noise, not distortion across any frequency range. And if it had continued, I definitely would've sent it in like you did yours. And also agree, many of the issues I've had with stats, I've simply not had with non-stats.

    RAAL 1995 Immanis

Yup, same here. I wasn't completely blown away either, just walked away feeling like they were up there in terms of a high end TOTL. It'll be very interesting comparing them both in house.

    RAAL 1995 Immanis

People can keep calling it a hype train.. but... there are simply too many very well experienced, long time users (that mind you, are generally skeptical and more honest to begin with because of said experience), that keep typing the same things and having the same experiences. And for me...

HIFIMAN Shangri-La: The New Electrostatic Headphones From HIFIMAN

Actually, this the one issue I did have previously that I mentioned in I think this thread or another. Very low level intermittent noise, that has pretty much gone away. I believe @BassicScience detected it a few times as well when I loaned them to him. Every now and then it comes back shortly...

HIFIMAN Shangri-La: The New Electrostatic Headphones From HIFIMAN

The actual build quality is the same as the Susvara, with two exceptions: 1) the wood looks/feels a bit nicer and 2) the cable doesn't feel well made, although this is kind of consistent. Outside of that, it's the same build. I'm on the record multiple times saying that I expected a more...

HIFIMAN Shangri-La: The New Electrostatic Headphones From HIFIMAN

I'll wait to see the price. I almost always like to see new stat offerings, and Hifiman has proven capable. I think if it's entry level pricing it's fine, but Hifiman really strikes a chord with me at times with the build quality given how they set prices. Hopefully this isn't priced at a premium..

    Stax SR-X9000

The CRBN does share some similarities with the 007. I think it gets tonality right a bit better than the 007, but doesn't have the same 3D and holographic sound the 007 can have (a bit short of the 009 in this regard, but better than the CRBN imo). And yea the only knock against the x9000 is...
